Another reason to love Southwest Airlines

PRJ, Actually there was a poster that had a whole thread about doing just that. If you have a student that wants a private college with a popular major, like business, why not throw that into the criteria?

PRJ - it is a gift – D’s university is about fifteen minutes from the airport, and Southwest flies directly to the airport that serves us. Hearing friends tell the saga about what’s involved getting kids home from schools that are three hours from some airport that then requires a connection to make it back here sounds awful – a long whole day in each direction, and if anything fails, a two-day trip if there are seats available on a later flight, which there often aren’t.

S1 was able to make a last-minute destination on a FREE SWA ticket this fall. No upcharge for the change in destination.

Both guys live 8-9 hours away by car. On SWA – it’s non-stop and easily accessible to public transit to campus.

I wish I came across this thread sooner. I just made quite a few plane reservations without giving SW a fair chance. I am too stuck up to try something I don’t know. I pay dearly for that.

Not to mention the fact that SW is always the first, when a storm is impending, to offer booked passengers the opportunity to rebook without penalty. That has saved my daugher several days of sitting in an airport by simply changing her plans a couple days ahead of time.

She flew SW back and forth to college for four years. It was cheaper than driving. I would say that having SW serve an airport 15 minutes from her college was a huge plus.

Southwest seems to have an unofficial motto, “No passenger left behind” A few years ago I was almost ready to spend a night either in NH or Midway when a systemwide computer problem shut down air traffic control in the Eastern part of the US. Southwest did not cancel a single flight, and as soon as the sytem was up and running, they send everyone on their way. A smart decision maker ordered to hold about a dozen of planes at the gates in Midway for 10-20 minutes, and the gate agents made sure that everione who arrived within -10 to 5 minutes of their connecting flight’s scheduled departure made their flight!

We have had similar good experiences with SW and always fly them if they are going where we are going. Have had many other poor experiences w/ other major carriers, including some especially horrendous flights to Hawaii with American. Wouldn’t fly American again if they paid me.

S2, my secretary and I were flying home to the midwest from CA with a connection in Denver and a stop in San Diego. When we arrived in San Diego, we were the only through passengers. Due to high winds in Denver, our departure was delayed for 2 hours. Because the needed our gate, they had to move the plane and made us get off. We had been chatting with the flight attendants who told us there was a really good Chinese restaurant which made S2 perk up. When we got off, we discovered we were in an area with just a couple of gates, and to get to the restaurants, you had to leave security, which we couldn’t do because we no longer had boarding passes. Two of the flight attendants went and got a menu from the restaurant, found out what S2 wanted, and brought him the food!
