Okay SB CCers please check in. I live just north of the fire area. Had a call earlier today from a client who was having a smoke issue. Looks like it is a pretty bad one but running north away from structures so far.

Here we go again
Evacuations ordered - does not sound good:

[1,200 homes ordered evacuated amid Calif. wildfire](http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090506/ap_on_re_us/us_wildfires)

SB CCers - how is everyone doing?

Yikes. I hope everyone is okay! I also hope they get it put out fast.

Must be summertime.

We are good for now. The wind is blowing and the direction can change so quickly so everyone is keeping a watch. My D’s school is pretty close to the main area of concern. We are on standby to see if there is school tomorrow.

Not again! I’m afraid my parents who live in Montecito can’t take this year after year. Good luck to all!

hmmom5 so far just some smoke in Montecito but no evacuations or structures threatened

This morning looks good. Not much wind this morning. I think the night was also not bad. Another factor is that it there is still moisture in the plants in the area. They said it would be an entirely different fire if it was later in the season when all the brush is dry. No containment yet but they are determined and prepared to keep the fire away from any structures.
It also appears that all the agencies are working together. Crews from the local county, city and also forest service plus Calfire. Also crews from out of the area.
There is also a fire burning in Arizona. Hope all the Arizona CC’s are safe.
My D is happy that they cancelled school. She gets to sleep late and have a day off with her friends. I suggested she use the day to do her laundry!

Mom60 I’m sure that went over big. It did look better on the news this morning. I think we are in for a dry summer. Hopefully we won’t have a lot of fire activity if everyone is careful. Perhaps this early fire will help spread the word.

ebeee- compromise was two loads.

ebeee-the fire has taken a turn for the worse. Was just at Sears and you can see the hillside on fire. Keyt is showing fire in the residential areas. Wind is here.
Hmom- cell calls are not all going through but text messages are. Your parents should be fine.

I just heard on the news that some homes have burned. San Diego County has sent some firefighters up there to help (and they help us when we have fires).

This is bad. Talk of evacuating downtown. Homes have burned and some firefighters have been badly hurt.

My parents have left but my sister and her family are staying for now.

Hoping for better news this morning…when I went to bed last night it looked pretty bad but the winds were calming. The bad news was that Thursday afternoon is supposed to be very windy.

Is the Santa Barbara fire season usually this early in the year? Here in San Diego, fire season is especially bad in October…

Just heard this morning that at least 20 homes have burned. Hope everyone there is ok. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in Santa Barbara.

The downside of paradise…

ucsd-ucla Dad- It is amazing how well the firefighters from all the different areas come together. Also how quickly it is all put into action. They are saying the injured firefighters are from Ventura County.
It is early in the fire season. Not expected this time of the year. We had friends last night staying with us. This time the mandatory area has expanded down into the flatland.
Lots of schools closed
A great thanks to the excellent news coverage by KCAL Channel 9 from Southern Ca. Much, MUCH better coverage then the local news station. KCAL stayed on the air all evening and into the night. Great aerial shots and information.

mom60, glad you and yours are fine. Hopefully the sundowner winds will not be as bad as predicted tonight. The firefighters have been doing an amazing job.
Got your DD doing YOUR laundry today?

Firefighters are doing a wonderful job. Unfortunately, they have had a lot of practice these past 6 years…

ebeee-1 load so far. I went out and while I was gone she escaped to the beach! She has a part-time job at a hair salon that includes doing the laundry. She hates laundry!
