Another shooting and protest

A non violent arrest should not mean you die. Even if it turned into what it did. Unarmed man vs cop with gun does not equal shoot him in the back, then kick him after he was dead and say " I got him". Utterly disgusting.

Please put that cop in general population at the Fulton County jail. Let him see how it is for him to get “got”.

I agree that the other officer’s statement was unexpected.

Kudos to the DA and the other officer for not being afraid here. Hard to say what a jury will do since juries are often very unpredictable.

There are certain circumstances where a fleeing felon with a weapon could definitely be a threat to others-they could carjack someone or take a hostage, etc.

In this situation, though, kind of seems like he was just fleeing. But I haven’t studied the videos yet and defer to those who have.

Why do people keep making the false claim Rayshard was non-violent. He physically attacked the officers and fired a taser at one of them.

He wasn’t just fleeing unarmed. If he got away, he still has a taser that can incapacitate an officer when they next approached.

And clearly he was unafraid to use it. And Rolfe fired immediately upon being fired upon. If I were on the jury and that is the end of the situation , I would acquit.

But if it’s true that no assistance was rendered afterwards, and there was actual kicking of Rayshard, that changes things.

No one but the former officer can answer that question. I would think this very question could be central to the case.

I can tell you that a taser with both cartridges discharged still has a functional stun gun component that can be activated on contact with someone. Had the former officer caught up to Mr. Brooks and attempted to subdue him, he would have had to contend with a combative suspect in possession of a stun gun.

Again, who said they thought it was okay?

I don’t even know what to say about this.

Go to CNN .com and see the picture (I can’t link) to see the officer kicking the dead man. That changes everything for me and I hope that officer gets everything he deserves.

CNN is now reporting that the lawyer of the other officer has released a statement clarifying that his client has not agreed to testify, has not agreed to plead guilty and has not agreed to be a state’s witness.

Of course, police blue is once again in force. That officer stood by and did not render aid to the victim. Yeah, he’s a gem of a human.

Just to be clear, I think most cops are honest, hard working men and women. But when they screw up, they dont get a free pass.

Can someone explain what get “got” means?

I agree.

Or the DA got ahead of himself.

I haven’t had an opportunity to watch the video that was shown at the press conference, but here is an update from the local paper. A neighbor mentioned that a shot from the officers gun lodged in the back seat of one of the cars in the parking lot/drive thru and my neighbor said there was an occupant in that seat. He mentioned that another charge was likely related to his firing the weapon in a crowded area.

Yes, there were three guys from Memphis in that car. The news conference showed the bullet hole in that car.

I don’t know what it means in the context of jail, but at the presser this afternoon, they emphasized that Rolfe said, “Got him!” after the shots were fired.

That’s the transferred intent charge.

An “unanticipated wrinkle”? Isn’t there some guideline about not shooting his firearm when there are many innocent bystanders around?

And they failed to render aid after he was shot, for 2 minutes and 12 seconds.

Several APD officers walked off for a while after the news conference and charges.

There were clearly wrongs committed on both sides. Police officers should not be assaulted. But neither should they kick and stand on wounded suspects.
