Another shopping thread-bags

I need a new bag for taking on planes. I have been using a messenger type of bag for about 20 yrs now. It is some sort of nylon microfiber type. It’s time to have something new.

What I need room for- kindle, netbook, magazine, pashmina or lightweight sweater and a few toiletries and has room for travel documents which sometimes are in a file folder and maybe a small umbrella. I usually also bring my crossbody small handbag that holds wallet. I figure the kids are old enough to bring their own snacks and entertainment.
What is your favorite bag to bring on a plane?

mom60, I have a reusable TJ’s shopping bag that I bring on the plane with me. If I have a carryon, I put my purse in the TJ bag, and voila! - I have 2 items :)

Here is the object of my desire  :

There is also a men’s version in navy which is slightly larger.

Lespotsac makes great lightweight nylon bags (I have one that I use as a “briefcase” to carry my laptop and stacks of documents). You can usually find a wide variety of them at NR for under $50.

I’ve been looking at some Jane Marvel bags. They carry them on e-bags.com. They come in various sizes, are lightweight and pretty reasonably priced. http://www.ebags.com/brand/jane-marvel</a></p>

Spirit air wants to charge for any bag that couldn’t fit under the seat now. I wouldn’t be surprised if other airlines will start following suit. Take that under consideration when getting a new bag.

I like Sherpani bags

[Sherpani Lifestyle Bags for Women - Handbags, Purses, Backpacks, Shoulder Bags, Laptop Bags, Baby Carriers, Luggage, Travel Bags, Totes, Sports and Gym Bags.](http://sherpani.com/)

I’ve had this one for a few years now, enough that it’s been around the globe, and I can use it for anything from a tennis bag to a computer bag. (And it pops on the top of roll on luggage…) It’s lightweight and awesome.

I recently bought

for traveling. I liked that it had a shoulder strap, handles, and there is a zippered slip pocket so I slide it over the handle of my wheeled luggage.

If I had it to do over again, I might get it in large. I don’t think you could stuff in a small handbag and all the peripherals for the computer and your kindle.

Otherwise, I do like it. I can keep documents for traveling in the front latched pocket and the rest in the case (laptop, kindle)

Look at Baggallini on line. Quality construction, great design and an array of colors and styles.

A Longchamp bag. I was chastised on an earlier thread, but I have them in several colors. They are lightweight, have a secure zipper, last forever and most importantly, are quite stylish.

I use Lands End canvas totes. They are strong and durable and you can put quite alot of “weight” in them. I have a couple with leather trim for business trips and more colorful ones for vacation travel. I like that you can put them under the seat and that you can open them wide at the top and see everthing inside. I can slip my puse in so I’m only carrying one bag and the side pockets are great for the boarding pass/passport/driver’s license ‘stuff’ without having to take out my wallet. I like that they sill slip over the handles on the wheelie luggage. One of my older (business ones) has a zipper across the top so nothing falls out when you do “push it” under the plane seat. I do like some of these lighter nylon bag links that are getting posted.

looks very nice, will fit all your stuff…

blackeyedsusan- I like one of the Jane Marvel bags but I am not a print person. I am trying to expand my wardrobe so maybe a print bag is a good step. Have you seen one in person.
The colors of the Bosca large tote are my usual colors. I wish it had an added longer strap
I have no shoulder and bags fall right off my arm. I like a bag that has the option of a longer cross body strap.
I also would love to replace my bag before I leave on Thursday.

I saw a few at a store, but not one of the larger carry-on bag styles I was looking at. It was cute and lightweight, made out of laminated canvas (which is great for rain and dirt and such), but the handles looked a little cheap. Too bad they didn’t use real leather for the handles. I think the print fabric makes it look fun. Here’s a link to the Jane Marvel website with more styles and info: [JANE MARVEL HANDBAGS: HOME](Home - Jane Marvel)

I’m still deciding as to whether to buy the Mile High style.

I was considering the overhead medium bag. Not sure if it is a bit big. Ebags has it on sale in discontinued colors for a good price.

I use a Vera Bradley tote. It’s big enough to hold my netbook, some toiletries, a book or two, one chance of clothes, a sweater/shirt or the like, and my wallet…and then some. AND it fits under my seat easily. It’s just a BIG purse.

If you like the longer cross body strap, leSportsac should have some good options…
They’re light weight and available at lots of dept stores.

This could be a good size: [7384 Small Weekender](http://www.lesportsac.com/store/7384_5205.html)

^^OMG!!! You can get one with cats all over it? <runs to=“” ger=“” her=“” credit=“” card=“”></runs>

Gourmetmom, your bag is $50 less than the one I want. Pure bargain! :D

I agree with Bunsenburner (not the one with the cats, sorry). I treated myself to the Burberry tote bag. I had been wanting it for a long time and finally decided to just go and get it. I waited until Bloomingdales had a sale and went for it. It’s black so it doesn’t show dirt and has a zipper so I don’t worry about things slipping out. It also fits over the handle of my suitcase. It was worth treating myself. I enjoy using it.

One word: backpack.

I love traveling with my backpack. It holds my laptop and the other things you mentioned. Get a nice one - colorful if you like. It’s durable, can leave my hands free, lots of pockets. Then I pack a small empty purse for when I get to my destination.

Using it right now on a trip!

I have the Vera Bradley Commuter bag in black microfiber. It has a padded laptop/kindle section and enough room for your other stuff without being too big. It fits comfortably under the seat.
