Another Should I retake thread..sorry

Composite: 34
English: 34
Math: 36
Reading: 30
Science: 36

I'm thrilled with the 34, especially the two 36's :)
But I am wondering if I should retake it just for my Reading score.

yOu probably should go kill yourself

No. A 34 is perfectly fine.

What are your goals? Would you like to attend a highly-selective college? Will you be applying for merit aid? What year are you? Is this the first time you took the ACT?

To determine whether a 34 is perfectly fine for you, look at the common data sets of the colleges you're considering to determine where your score fits with those of admitted students.

It's my first time, I'm a rising senior. Of course I want to apply to the best colleges I could get into, and I know my score is pretty good for even highly selective colleges, but I'm wondering if it would be worth it to obtain a higher READING score.

Although your composite score is competitive for ivy league caliber schools, if I were you, I would want to bring that reading score up to 32 or higher just to make sure. If you feel you can duplicate your other sections and perform better on the reading next time, then by all means go for it.

Good luck.

It seems that colleges pay most attention to the composite score, and then to the English and math scores (I reached this conclusion because I've noticed that colleges sometimes separate those from the others when giving admissions statistics). However, as you have only taken the ACT once, and there are several chances to take it this fall, I would suggest that you try once more.

The first time my daughter took the ACT, her scores were similar to yours, but science was her low score. She retook it in June, raised her science score to 36 and raised her composite score two points. I thought that it was important to bring up her science score because she might major in a science.

Good luck to you!

I was in the same boat as you (except my 30 was in english and 34 in reading) a year ago. I took it twice more, got a 34, and just recently got a 36. The difference is a few questions here and there, and I think a lot of it has to do with question types and luck. If you have a few free Saturdays, I suggest doing it.
