Another stupid example of Zero Tolerance

[Colo. boy, 6, suspended for reciting ‘Sexy’ lyric - Yahoo! News](http://news.yahoo.com/colo-boy-6-suspended-reciting-sexy-lyric-204228377.html)

You have to read this to believe it!

I saw it on tv.

Eh, i say the administration needs to go back to school if they think singing a lyric is sexual harassment.

That is insane.

Yes, it is!!!

It may not be as crazy as it appears at first glance. I’ve read other articles that say that the boy had been previously disciplined for doing precisely the same thing.

“D’Avonte’s mother, Stephanie Meadows, told ABC7 News that her son had had disciplinary problems before this week’s infraction. Last month, she said, he was sent to the principal’s office for singing the same song to the same girl.
This time, however, he was “shaking his booty” near the girl’s face, Meadows told ABC7 News.”

As a parent I would not be happy if a boy was grinding in the face of my 6 year old daughter, chanting “I’m sexy and I know it”, despite repeated requests not to do so. As none of us were there we really can’t know what his body language was or if he was standing close enough to the girl that she would reasonably feel threatened by him. We also don’t know what his previous disciplinary history consisted of.

Sue, even still, what is suspension going to tech a six year old? Not a darn thing.

Romanigypsyeyes-

I just know that there is usually more to such stories than meets the eye. Schools are bound by confidentiality laws, so they can’t disclose a student’s past disciplinary history. For all we know this was a last-resort move made by the school after the parents of the little girl threatened to sue the school for failing to prevent sexual harassment and bullying.

I’m not sure suspension teaches any student anything in particular no matter what their age, but at least it usually gets the attention of the parents.

He’ll learn that he gets time off for bad behavior?

I think even a six year-old could understand that there are repercussions for his actions. It may be new to him if he has never been held accountable for his negative behaviors.

Where does a six year old even learn to behave like that?

Imitation, ek. I highly doubt he has any idea what he’s doing. I had a two year old hit both mine and my boss’s rear end this last week at the shelter.

You’re right, there could be more to the story but I still don’t know if there is a justification for suspension. A six year old isn’t going to see that as a punishment.

TV, movies, at home?

“Where does a six year old even learn to behave like that?”

Probably from the ■■■■■ video. I was curious so I checked it out on youtube. It turns out it’s tagged for sexually explicit content and for good reason. The main characters and others who join him strip off their pants thrust their hips in speedo-like underwear which clearly offers no support. I think that’s about as pointed as I can be without incurring the wrath of the CC mods.

I am out of the loop, I forget about television, cause we don’t ever turn it on.
I would hope that parents supervise what their young children are watching, but I realize that seems like a lot to ask.

When my D was 6, the worst thing I remember her watching was “All dogs go to Heaven”, almost everyday. Wasn’t that bad enough?

Hey, he escaped from a hell hole run by a bunch of idiots. Give credit where credit isdue.

If he had been repeatedly asked not to engage in certain behavior in front of others, and chose not to, punishment should be given. Suspension is not out of the question, if not to teach the boy a lesson but to allow the girl the education she deseves.

But everyday? (in response to mini)

In the Law and Order of this topic, the student was 13 and raping girls, not just flashing them. He learned it from TV and videos.

Yep, you’re right. He should have received an award or something…

Suspension teaching that actions have consequences…

I didn’t say ANYTHING along those lines now did I?

No it doesn’t. It shows that you can get a day off of school.
