Totally agree that if the time worked out Balloon Fiesta (first week of October in Albuquerque) is pretty spectacular. We stayed in Santa Fe and drove twice to Albuquerque BEFORE DAWN because it was so cool. Staying in Albuquerque might be a better alternative, but the drive was pretty easy.
