CC is a wonderful community, I have received a lot of help from this community and I stand here once again before you asking for some advice.

So, I’m a senior. Grade 12. I studied for 1 week and took my first SAT 1 (Jan 2011) and scored a 1840. Then, I studied 3 weeks for my second attempt (May 2011) and scored a 2100.

Honestly speaking, I was expecting a 2200+ but CR killed me - not because I wasn’t prepared, but because I lost my dad’s watch while on a CR section (it was about a concert and a black women interpreting the crowd there). I had a panic attack (yes, I’m using a hyperbole) but it really disturbed me. The good news is, I found it after two sections, under my desk. I know it was stupid. Very stupid.

So, should I give it another shot, maybe in October? This time I’ll study for one full month.

Just as an extra, I am aiming for some of the good (top) universities for engineering in the USA. Yes, a 2100 is very low for the Ivys, even MIT. I’m aiming at:

Georgia Tech, CalTech, MIT.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

NEW DOUBT: When I apply to the universities, is it wise to use score choice? For example, will it be good to send in all scores? (To show my 260 point increase?)

Also please note that these questions are just in context of the SAT I and that this is not a “chance me” thread. It’s based on one factor only: SAT reasoning test.

I absolutely think you should take it again. You seem to think you can do better, so why not show a college your true potential? Get your 2200 so you can stop worrying about it.

Check with your prospective schools about score choice. Most schools want all of your score reports, so it’s a moot point. If they do allow you to send your best score, I’d wait and see how do on the October test before making any decisions.

caltech looks at your SAT I scores VERY SERIOUSLY!! also try to get as high a score in a single sitting rather than trying out superscoring them! you have a lot of time, so besties :)

If you send your current scores to the schools you are applying to, you can take the October SAT with no pressure. If you do better, you just have to pay to send your new scores. If you do the same or worse, then no one needs to know. This strategy only works if it is your last shot at the test and you have already sent your previous scores. (So if you still have SAT2’s to take, do them in October and save this trick for the November test.)

hah even i’m giving it in october again! i gave the may test and got 2280 wana break the 2300 barrier but i’m soo worried that i’ll forget all vocab and grammar rules by that time what with the supertough studies and all back home in indiaa
