Planning to apply to Berkeley and LA

Describe the world you come from for example, your family, community or school and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations

Eight months ago, I was granted the opportunity of joining Ciceros Pizza, not just as a busboy, but as a part of their family. At the outset, I could not anticipate the impact this second family would have in the months to come, but now I can fully grasp the influence it has on my future goals and me.
I work with a diverse and hardworking group, each member contributing their own to keep us going every night. Throughout the months working there, I learned about the different roads each person had taken before reaching Ciceros, and these roads showcased many struggles and failures stemming from two primary reasons, a lack of opportunity and proper education. One of my coworkers, named Margarito, explained how his poor qualifications couldnt obtain any well-paying jobs, having to settle for less even though he had rent to pay and children to provide for, forcing him to undertake three, daily jobs. You could sense the intelligence in his character and see how his highly capable mind wasnt allowed to be utilized to the fullest because of his lack of education and opportunity. The chance to use ones brain to the fullest is something I see as an exclusive privilege, and something definitely worth competing for. After hearing the difficulties of life when an education was minimal, I realized the situation I could put myself into if not wanting to seek the best education to give me opportunities, which would expand my learning and provide tools for earning a more fulfilling future.
He and others illustrated the competitiveness of the real world and the importance of outdoing your best work every time. I took their words of wisdom to heart and started competing with myself, knowing that there were several other applicants willing to usurp my role, pressuring my own abilities to improve and impress more each shift. In less than three months, I moved up from busboy, to making salads, to decorating pizzas, taking on a bigger, more challenging part of the pizza-making process each promotion. It had surprised me how I was able to attain a high rank in a relatively short period of time, given that I had vaulted above people working longer than me. The words these people had preached will by no means depart with my mindset because they allowed me to achieve my best in that workplace, showing how applying the same attitude in my future tasks will ensure success.
The Ciceros Pizza family helped me realize what my life could turn into, if not taking a serious consideration to what a better education offers, and more importantly that I have the tools and mindset capable of advancing myself in any chosen venture.
