I saw that too. Great program. Am I remembering correctly that the chess coach is paid by an anonymous donor?
Yes (as to there being an anonymous donor). I started to cry while watching the segment.
Heartwarming segment tonight. Checkmate.
Our kids got chess lessons in the school that was provided as a memorial to a neighbor. It was a great program. The school got involved in scholastic chess tournaments and did very well during the years my kids were at the school. It’s a great idea.
It would be pretty sweet if these kids didn’t have to rely on anonymous donors

My sister teaches at a Title 1 school, and they have a chess team. I know they won the city tournament, but don’t know if they competed at the next level. The definitely couldn’t afford to travel to another city without sponsorship from the school district or outside funds. Her class goes on two field trips per year, and the cost per child has to be below $2 as that’s all the budget allows.
