Anthem Breach - question about dependents.

My DH and I were able to go online with the 3 security companies and sign up for the credit freeze. However, they wouldn’t allow me to do it online with my kids, 18 and 21. So, I did what was asked and sent in a letter with all the vital information, along with a copy of their drivers license and one bank checking statement. I got a reply from all 3 agencies that nothing could be done because they couldn’t find any credit for them…which makes sense, as neither has establised credit of any kind yet. But…aren’t we supposed to be doing this so nobody goes and establishes credit in their names, if their information is compromised somehow?

We were able to add them. Were you trying to use Allclear ID? Mine are both minors, so I don’t know if that makes a difference.

No, i went straight to Experian, Transunion and the other one.

I wasn’t able to do it for my kid (age 21,) either. They said he had to do it. So I gave him the info and told him to call. He only has a debit card tied to his checking account so also the no credit thingy, but they said it didn’t matter - he could have the 90 day alert.

My kids have all credit histories, since I added them to my credit cards once they started college. I wanted them to have a credit card they could use in case they were in a jam and to buy things that we approved (e.g. plane tickets, textbooks, etc.) I gave them the link after initially registering them for AllClear ID. I am hoping they have followed through but don’t know for sure. We were all at risk because they had medical care with BCBS during the relevant security breach period.

We just got notification that we are affected by the Premera breach. All 4 of us received letters, even though H and I are primary (the girls are on his insurance). The girls are eligible for the same ID/Credit monitoring that we are. They both have credit history due to apartment living, even though they don’t have credit cards.

Our kids’ credit histories are longer than their ages, since they got out good credit history when I applied for joint credit cards with them.
