Anthony Weiner

Sorry, vicarious. If it is any comfort to you, after 27 years of flying, I can tell you it is a far different world than it used to be. The crew concept and treating others with respect is a much greater priority, as airlines have realized it is a basic safety issue. Alot of those guys who were totally inappropriate and poor leaders have long since retired.

Good points, Hanna (#134). Something to think about.

Although I think there is a difference between marital infidelity and juvenile risk-taking sexual acting out. And a difference between the worlds in which FDR/Ike/JFK… operated and the one we live in now. Where the press and operatives around you are not going to give a wink and a nod and protect the old boy’s “privacy.”

It is interesting to speculate how those men would or would not have changed their behavior if they lived in today’s media world. But in the cases of FDR and Ike (afaik), we are talking about marital infidelity with long term partners rather than adolescent escapades. Different.

Yes, I agree with what everyone else has said about reckless risk-taking. It was pretty scummy of FDR to enlist his daughter to help bring his old mistress to see him during his illnesses. But it was just about risk-free from a career perspective.

We’re not going to get rid of narcissists in high office. That’s who seeks high office, and high office causes more narcissism once you get there. But some careful, prudent narcissists would be a nice change of pace.

After reading these posts, I think I know why it doesn’t bother me as much as it should: I fully expect politicians to be liars. Now the level to which one lies can bother me, but when a guy says “I was hacked, I swear” or “I didn’t have relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.” Oh, please. I’m not surprised when they’re caught. I think to be successful in politics a certain amount of greasing the skids, aka lying, is to be expected.

An example of where the lying crosses the line for me, personally – when politicians argue against the very thing they are, ie, closeted homosexuals who decry homosexuality. A family-values guy who’s having an affair on his wife.

I just went to check in on this thread and realized that the title of the thread is “Anthony Weiner”. All along I thought it said “Another Weiner”. lol.

Politicians at all levels of government lost my respect a long time ago. But when politicians behave as if the normal rules don’t apply to them, whether it be sending porno pictures to strangers or not paying their taxes, or living lavish lifestyles, it certainly doesn’t do anything to make their fellow citizens respect them, much less admire them.

Gotta love those NY [politicians]…first it is Spitzer, serial cheater…then Rangel, sits on the House Ways and Means committee, and doesn’t pay his taxes, now Weiner…

And …Does the name Rudy Guiliani ring a bell? Chris Lee? Vito Fossella, who had to resign to spend more time with both his families?

What do you call an excessive tweeter?

A birdbrain!

Fact of the matter is, in today’s world, the ‘normal’ rules are pretty lax. People send ‘sext’ messages all the time, there is a lot of home-made pornography that gets uploaded on the internet, the Kim Kardashians and their imitators are making and leaking sex tapes, lots of people cheat on taxes, lots of people still live lavish lifestyles, and advertisers, reporters, and TV talking heads lie or make up facts all the time. So if a non-politician can get away with a lot of bad stuff, are we holding our politicians to an unrealistically high standard?

“Schmaltz, I appreciate the empathy for a possible geeky hs nerd who couldn’t get no respect and now has power and sex appeal. How that explains him being unable to content himself with his beautiful new wife, I don’t get. I’m happy for any hs geek who comes into his own in our new Geeks Rule world (or powerful politicians rule, or whatever)… but I’m not giving him a pass on having zero ethics/morals - as regards his treatment of his wife.”

I’m NOT excusing him…just explaining him. There is nothing about him or his views that I like. As for why he can’t content himself with his pretty wife. That too might benefit from digging beneath the surface. If he was as nerdy as I suspect he was in high school, I’m guessing most of his early experience in the act of “love” involved him flying solo, if you get my drift.

That would fit in with the little bit I know about his adult love life: (1) dumping the Fox News hottie (she got too close to him), (2)marrying a practicing Muslim with a demanding job (and therefore little experience, expectations, time and maybe even inclination for being his co-pilot on Love Airlines–he said she knew about it pre-marriage, after all), and (3) feeling right at home dealing with these other women only via the internet/texts and not face-to-face. In other words, maybe he got so accustomed to flying solo that he feels inhibited when he’s got a real live physical person to fly with.

OMG I just read this article about his wife. She seems like an amazing woman. I hope she leaves him.

I was always attracted to geeks. They often have a sweetness about them. I much preferred a nerd to a football-captain-I-can-get-any-girl-I-want type.

Adding busdriver’s comment to the list of amusing double entendres!! LOL !! That was probably unintended, but it was funny! Thanks busdriver!

anyone catch this quip?? How painfully prophetic:
[Queens Rep. Anthony Weiner marries Huma Abedin, with Former President Bill Clinton presiding - New York Daily News](http://articles.nydailynews.com/2010-07-11/local/27069600_1_wedding-spot-state-hillary-clinton-longtime-aide)

She’s brilliant and absolutely stunning. Quite a contrast to his internet ladies. Did you catch the one who was chewing gum during her interview?

Well, it’s pretty obvious Weiner doesn’t deserve this amazing woman. I feel so sorry for her.

She apparently has a very close personal relationship with Hillary Clinton. I’d love to be a fly on the wall to hear her advice about this.

We should start a poll on what day we think he is going to resign. Despite his claims to the contrary, I think it’s not if he will resign, its when. He is going to be a pariah amongst his colleagues and his constituents, and the continued investigation (particularly that done by the media) will likely fry him and his marriage. I dont think he can pul off what Giuliani did. His marriage won’t survive it. His wife is way too classy and way too private. His only way to stop it is to resign. I am guesing by next Monday, June 13. Other guesses?

Friday afternoon. You always break bad news late Friday.
