I am homeschooled, and need a recommendation letter for my college application. I have some teachers that know me well and would be willing, but the problem is that they are not familiar with the US system of applying to colleges, and have never written a recommendation letter. So I am wondering, what exactly is supposed to be said in a letter? Is it best to say only positive things about the student, or also talk about some of his/her faults? Is there anything specific that needs to be said?

Here is a good video overview on how to write a recommendation letter (from Vanderbilt Univ.)
