Any Alice Sebold fans on here?

She gives Penn a lot of love. I was lent her memoir Lucky and then proceded to read her novel The Lovely Bones, both in the excruciating few weeks between November 1 and December 12 (13?), and it just made me yearn for Penn. In Lucky, her genius older sister goes there, and in The Lovely Bones the character Ray Singh’s father teaches there and his alibi for not murdering Susie is that he was at Penn with his father, or something like that.

Totally random and insignificant, I know, but did anyone else read either of these? It just feels rare that Penn actually gets mentioned in pop culture (God forbid Blair Waldorf go to Penn…), and The Lovely Bones was actually a bestseller I believe.

^ And a movie recently filmed in Philly, to be released later this year:

^ I’ve been following that! They were delaying the release date for a while, but now I’ll be forced to see it while I’m actually in Philly. I didn’t know that part of it was filmed in Philly itself… I wonder where, specifically?

^ Mostly (entirely?) in the 'burbs:

Do some Googling if you want more details. :)

I’d heard that they were making a Norristown out of Malvern, but it looks like at least one scene was indeed in Philadelphia:

I read The Lovely Bones–awesome book! It was a while ago though so I didn’t make the Penn connection.

Her father taught at Penn for many years. She went to Syracuse, because, as she said, “I wasn’t smart enough to get into Penn.”

she is a PGSA alumnus. i actually read the lovely bones while i was at PGSA. cool beans.

Ah, governor’s school? That’s awesome.

I also just found out that her dad (Alice Sebold’s real life dad, not Susie Salmon’s fictional one) taught Spanish at Penn.
