any benefit in sending AP scores to colleges early?

I got a good score on my AP Studio Art exam last year, and my art teacher insists that I send in my scores now to my top choice schools because it will “put me on their radar”. (I’m applying to several public, private, and art schools.) I’m not sure if this is even true, and I’m kind of discouraged from mailing them because the price of mailing scores add up. I would also have to resend them anyway once I complete this year’s AP exams.

So, is it a good idea to send scores early?

thanks in advance.

No. Many of them won’t even have a file set up for you yet. AP exam results are self-reported in any case and can go in with your common application. Of course, I don’t know about art schools - perhaps your teacher does - and there is some difference there. Otherwise, save your money.

Self reporting is for admissions - put it on your CA as a credential
Official reporting is for class placement, after being admitted.

Until a file is complete, it won’t be read.
You can self report on your CA and you will need to send the scores from CB/AP so they can be verified.

Colleges don’t verify your AP scores as part of admissions. The time to send your official AP scores is after you have been accepted if you are seeking college credit or placement out of a requirement (like language distribution requirements).

You don’t have to ask College Board to send the score to schools (cost money). You could just send a letter to the schools, telling them you scored 5 on your AP Studio Art exam.
