I know I’m not the triple 800 SAT candidate, and I don’t have a page long list of extracurriculars, but I have committed a significant amount of my time outside of school to a very demanding gymnastics schedule. The dedication hopefully will help me out, and I feel like my essay is quite unique and strong. Does anyone think there is a chance at all for me at Yale? What about any other Ivies or top-ranked universities also?

Obviously, you are an amazing gymist and you should make that shine in order to make up for your scores. In the end, definitely apply–at least it’s better than wondering forever “would I have been accepted?”

Thanks cadillac, I hope Yale will notice that as well and I’ll be sure to make it as noticeable as i possibly can. I am definitely applying no matter what though, because there is no hurt in trying. Do you think I should wait until RD though, so I can maybe further reinforce my app as much as possible?

I would wait till RD - you’re gymnastics commitment gives you the best shot but try retaking the SAT’s or get another SAT II that breaks 700. It’ll probably help the overall effect to have some more 7s in the hundreds place on there :]

Why not submit just ACT? Your 34 is excellent! I think that you, as a student from an underrrepresented state and a definite passion (gymnastics–is being a male gymnast a hook? I mean, how many applications does Yale really get a year from male gymnasts) have a decent shot. GL.

Tres Elefantes - the problem is that I already sent in my SAT scores beforehand not knowing that I would get much better on my ACT. Do you think it will hurt me now that they see my SAT scores as well? Or do you think it will still be fine considering my ACT score on top of the SAT? I’m pretty sure I’m planning on taking the SAT again in November just to see if I can raise my scores to be safe though. I just wish i could tell them to throw away my SAT scores!!!

Yale requires either all of your ACT scores OR ( bold and underlined a gazillion times) all or your SATI AND SATII scores. So the op could get around Yale seeing the SATs. idk how that would work now since the SAT s ores have already been sent but it is a possibility.

Yes, you CAN submit one OR the other. One OR the other. The ACT may be submitted in place of SAT. It’s too late now, though, because it has already been sent.

^Doesn’t matter, they will take your highest score anyway, which in this case is your ACT 34. Plus, they will see you took it after the SATs, which means improvement.

^ Your Act still appears to be your highest. Since you’ve already sent in your SAT’s go ahead and send the new scores along with your ACT. The Admission officers will use your best score… Congrats on your improvement!

thanks! I just haven’t sent any scores to some schools. Unfortunately, I have to Yale. So to the schools I haven’t sent any, should I send just the ACT? would it hurt me at all to send both?
