I feel great about my PIQs & got them approved by a past [UCB] admissions officer @ my school as well as many of my teachers. they all tie in really well with my major & intended career path. I wrote a lot about personal experience w/leadership. wrote about work experience & internships. talked about what sparked my interest in cog sci.

Im applying to:
SFSU SDSU, CP SLO, CP Humboldt, UCB (my top, but such a reach I think!) UCSD UCSC & UCD

Be honest!! Thanks

SFSU and Humboldt are non-impacted CSU campuses, so applicants for non-nursing majors who meet CSU baseline requirements should be admitted.

Freshman admission by discipline | University of California can show you past admission rates and GPA (weighted capped) ranges for various UC campuses and major groupings.

Oh great! I’ve never seen this, how would I classify cognitive sciences under these disciplines? I know it is pretty popular at UCB

The CIP-to-discipline tab shows 1601 linguistic, comparative, and related language studies and services under arts & humanities, while it shows 3025 cognitive science under other/interdisciplinary.

Great! Thank you so much

Cognitive Science is often housed in the Psychology department.

So under social sciences then? Sorry, trying to understand this chart.

I’d check your schools. I could be missing but I don’t see CP Humboldt with either major.

Not sure of your budget (you said you can earn a fee waiver).

In the WUE, only UCM comes up for Cognitive Science and you are there already with ELC.

For Neuroscience, many come up including low cost OOS Boise State at $9,179, Montana at $8,946, WWU at $12,518 and UN Reno at $12,645.

For Linguistics, lots of CSUs so you’’ go for cheap - but not ones you listed - Boise and Idaho State (just over $9K), Montana under $9K and Montana State $9450, and Weber State $8432.

Good luck.

Ah yes! Sorry about that, I applied for some of my safeties under child development as I aim to do speech pathology later on. I only applied in CA and have a fund for college (unsure of exact amount but am told I am stable for college payments)

It depends on the campus. At UCLA, UCD, UCR and UCSC it is within the department of psychology. I don’t believe UCB and UCSD are within psychology. At UCI it is in School of Social Sciences. UCSB doesn’t offer cognitive science and I don’t believe SLO does either.

You have a good list of reach/target/safety schools. Based on your stats, you should be accepted by UCSC. 50/50% accepted by UCD and SDSU. Ands yes, you have chance for CAL,UCSD and SLO. Relax and enjoy rest of your senior year. Nothing much else you can do anyway. Good Luck.

SLO doesn’t appear to have a cog sci or linguistics major. It depends on your major that you selected as to your chances.

For Berkeley, it will be a reach.

SFSU - dos not have cog sci but psych and a concentration in linguistics in their English department. But these do not look impacted. If you applied to this major I believe you will get in. Impaction | Future Students

SDSU - all majors are impacted. They have a linguistics major and I believe you have a chance but it may be a hard target, maybe 50/50.

CP Humboldt, appears to have linguistics but no cog sci but computer science. I say you will get into Humboldt’s linguistics.

As for the UCs here is the 2023 GPA admit rates. I don’t know what 2024 is.

Campus 4.00+ 3.70-3.99 3.30-3.69 3.00-3.29
Berkeley 17% 3% 1% 1%
Davis 64% 25% 6% 2%
Irvine 42% 13% 1% 0%
Los Angeles 14% 1% 0% 0%
Merced 96% 95% 93% 87%
Riverside 92% 84% 55% 14%
San Diego 39% 9% 1%

Congratulations on your accomplishments and being a competitive applicant.

Your Likely schools are SFSU and CP Humboldt.

Did you apply for Cal Poly SLO as a Child Development major? Note that Cal Poly SLO uses 9-11th a-g course grades with the 8 semester Honors point cap for admissions so you can recalculate your CSU GPA by adding in 9th grades.

Child Development at SLO has a projected admit rate of 23% with an SLO GPA admit rate (25-75th percentile) of 3.96-4.25 for the College of Liberal Arts but not major specific.

SDSU had a 65% admit rate for Linguistics majors with an overall Campus average admitted CSU GPA of 4.04. SDSU is probably a Toss Up school since they had over 90K Freshman applicants this year so another record high.

This is the Cognitive Science data I have for the UC’s:

Campus Cognitive Science
UC Berkeley College of L&S major selection not considered for admissions 9%- / Capped weighted UC GPA 4.14-4.29 Unweighted 3.89-4.00 Capped weighted 4.31-4.65

Thanks! Yes I would be child development for SLO

Thanks so much, yes! I applied child development for SLO and I believe Speech Disorders for SDSU

THis would be for the UC Capped right?

SDSU Freshman 2024 admit rate for Speech Disorders was 56%.

The chart posted by @Mystics is UC Capped weighted GPA.

Thanks!!

thank you! appreciate it

SDSU has a great speech pathology program. Look at their pre-reqs. Some of them might not be offered at UCs.

It sounds like SDSU helps to make sure that their Speech undergrads are able to get the pre-reqs for graduate school. If you are sure speech pathology is the career path for you, SDSU for undergrad might be a great choice.
