I applied for DA Biochem. I want to double major Biochem/CSE. Is there any chance I could possibly also get CSE to consider me for DA? I have a very, very strong application and I do not doubt that I would be accepted. However, I don’t know if it would even be permitted for me to be considered DA to two majors. If I emailed the advisors, would they be sympathetic to my situation and make an exception or would I be shot down?

Did you only put in biochem as your intended major? Or did you also put CS or CE?

If you put CS/CE in your other intended major, you’re still considered.

I’m not sure if it’s too late to email the advisers. You can email the advisers but I can’t speak for their decision on considering your application.

Unfortunately, I did not also put CS as an intended major (a major lack of foresight and planning on my part). I will email them and see how it turns out.

If you were to come to the UW, would you already have 142/3? There is precedent for making students with solid applications DAs if they already have, and they ask the advisors if they can start taking more advanced classes in the CSE department.

Also, if you already have a very solid application, getting into CSE as an accelerated admit should be easy peasy ;)

If I came to the UW, I would have credit for 142 through APCS A, so I would probably start with 143 and then move on to more advanced classes after that.

Thanks–I do have a very strong application, so even if I can’t be considered for DA, I’ll just do accelerated admission then, I guess. I appreciate the advice!

Well, perhaps I was exaggerating a bit–I guess I wouldn’t call it “very” strong, it’s not like I’m an IMO medalist or anything I do like to think that it’s fairly decent, though.

I do, however, have an extremely high SAT, a perfect GPA with an almost full AP courseload from a top instate public that UW loves to accept students from, a CS-related research internship with a UW professor, other CS-related extracurriculars, and a very strong math/science background in general, having taken classes up to the level of differential equations and having taken all the rigorous AP sciences.

No reply yet, so I’m slightly worried - I sent the email through this link [UW CSE Email Gateway](<a href=“UW CSE Email Gateway”>UW CSE Email Gateway) so I really hope it got to them.

Sending via that page means all the advisers will get the email. I wouldn’t be too worried … but if you are really on the edge of your seat, you could always give them a call.
