any chance?

hi i am a junior and i wanted to know if i have any chance in getting into an ivy league

class rank 42 out of 611
weighted GPA: 4.35
unweighted GPA: 3.5
SAT: 2250
ACT: 32
Extracurriculars : National honor society, Secretary for spanish honor society, future business leader of america, extemp captain for debate team, tennis

volunteering: a lot and i have leadership positions too
internship: BP energy company

DO I HAVE A CHANCE?

Everyone has a chance. You have a particularly poor one, however. Although your SAT score is decent, your class rank and unweighted GPA are quite subpar for UPenn (and other top schools), and your ECs seem lackluster.

so how do u think i can improve my chances?

What's your GPA trend? Static, upward, downward? That could make a big difference.

what about your SAT2 scores?

and also doesn't the internship make me standout?

im taking them in october but hoping to get 730+ on all of them

i am positive that my GPA will go up during senior year

How has it trended thus far?

it's increasing

Dude find a way to stop the BP oil leak and you're in.

How difficult is your school? It's interesting that with the low uw gpa, you are in the top 10%. If your school is really competitive then the uw gpa may not be that bad.

Your ec's seem a bit lacking. I see that you do FBLA and debate. Do you have any awards in them. Because if you focus pretty intensely on those two activities and have awards (regional, state, national) to show for it, then I would say that your EC's are actually pretty good.

Also, your SAT score is above average for all of the ivies, and for your SAT IIs try to get above a 750 on all of them. Also if you are taking ap classes, getting 5s on the exams can make up for getting Bs in the class.

i have awards in them but not regionals, state or nationals... but being captain should help right? and how can i improve my EC's... should i participate more or get more leadership positions?

Class rank 42? isn't that kinda bad?

This all depends on the competitiveness of the school sabham attends.

I don't know, but to me I think that people overhype the importance/significance of leadership positions. In so many schools these are merely popularity contests and you also have to think about how many other people can say I was president of this, or treasurer of that. I don't think getting more leadership positions will help much. However I think that if you participate more and get more awards, that is something that could help you stand out. Not everyone is able to say I won first place at this state competition or qualified to nationals in that etc. Try to distinguish your self in your ECs and not just by gaining titles.

thank you and also do i have a chance in getting into non ivy league schools like NYU, UChicago, and DUKE as a business major???
