Any changes to Naviance with new SAT scoring?

I’m wondering the same thing. I went to the Naviance website and scrolled through their blog and there is no mention of how they plan to address the new SAT. Isn’t CC owned by the same company (Hobson’s)?

Bump… Anyone have info on this?

I have not been able to figure this out either.

Looking at the Naviance scores for our school half the kids with his GPA and grades got into Harvard. Did that mean he had a 50% chance? Probably not, though he did get in. My best advice would be to look up the old percentiles for math and CR and assume that acceptence for the new SATs will be in the same general range. But it does appear that Naviance is going to be difficult to use for the next couple of years until the new data is in.

It doesn’t seem to me that there’s such a difference between the new SAT scores and the old SAT scores on a 1600 scale that it would really make much of a difference. I looked up the concordance table and there’s only a 20 point difference between my son’s actual SAT score and what it would have been if converted to the old 1600 score. 20 points isn’t going to change where his circle shows up on the Naviance scattergrams in any meaningful way.

^^There’s a 70-point difference between old and new SAT score for my D, so I am mentally moving the circle to the left to better reflect her concorded score–it doesn’t seem to be making a lot of difference, but there’s definitely some.

When I posted this, many months ago, I was thinking that the scoring was going to be totally different than it used to be. In the end, my S17 focused on the ACT so I look at that comparison instead. When I look at the SAT comparison, I too mentally move the circle over. :slight_smile:

One thing I just realized from looking at the Naviance graphs more carefully. I don’t know if this is how all schools have chosen to show the data, but at least for my kids’ school, the SAT scores on a 2400 scale must have been converted to the new 1600 scale. I have several different graphs I can see, one for SAT (1600 scale), one for SAT (2400 scale), and one for ACT. In all cases, the data is for the years 2011-2016. If the SAT 1600 graph only included the results of applications for kids who actually took the SAT graded on that scale, the graph would be empty, as the 2400 scale has been in use since 2005. When I look at the SAT 1600 and the SAT 2400 graphs side by side, I realize now that there are the same number of results plotted on each. So it must be that the results being shown on the SAT 1600 graph are actually results for kids who took the 2400 scale test, but then converted to what they would have gotten on the 1600 scale. So in other words, there’s no need to convert your kid’s score on the new test over to the old 1600 scale score.

Those results are not converted. The 1600 option was always there and it shows the CR + Math. During the old SAT days several schools only considered the CR +Math.

Looks as though the newly changed Naviance (yuck) has automatically converted the old SAT’s (1600 not 2400). My score out of 2400 is the same but the 1600 score has been moved up quite a bit.

Yes it is true!
I just checked the “new” Naviance and my son’s score is moved from 1420 to 1480! (the 2400 score stayed the same)
So they are using the concordance tables for the 1600s old scores.
I personally not a big fan of the concordance table but we will see…

As for the “new” naviance… what’s funny is they changed some things I always thought were bad (sorry I am a software nerd) but then removed a lot of data… at least on ours. We now only get acceptance stats going back 2 years + current for each institution and no numerical averages (and I complained about them being averages and not medians, but now that they are gone… lol). Also can’t find the CDS data for 75%, etc? What am I missing, and is there a better thread?

On the plus side, there is less jumping around now, and I do like the higher res scattergrams and more granular axes.

@Postmodern
Our Naviance has only 2 years of data in the page with the scattergram but if you click “college acceptance history” then it has acceptances and enrollments that cover five years. But no averages etc.

About the colleges acceptance rates that pop up under admissions: Aren’t those a bit higher than the web says? For example it shows 32% for Northeastern which I thought is currently less than 30%.

Thanks @am9799 , where do you see that link for “college acceptance history”? I can’t see it and I even ctrl+f on a few pages… I might just be missing it with all the whitespace… I know Naviance has a lot of variables per school so it is possible that one has not been enabled by our admins.

@Postmodern
in “family connections” main page I get four tabs: colleges, careers, about me, planner
I click colleges.
There I get: my colleges, college research, scholarships and money.
i go to college research and “acceptance history” is on of the sub/categories. When I click I get a huge list of colleges and next to each college is a number of admits and a number of enrolment for 2011-2017. If a college had no admits then it is not in the list. No other stats are provided.

Thanks @am9799 … I was lamenting the loss of seeing each year separately, which used to be possible… in addition there was a “school stats” section which had separate averages for the regular vs early applicants… but I greatly appreciate your help. If anyone else knows if these options still exist, please let me know, or I will have to click a “help” button, and every software developer knows that is against the law. :wink:

I can not see those stats either.

@Dolemite on a different thread told us that you can get to some old Naviance stats with the following URL, where you add the college ID after the = sign.
https://connection.naviance.com/family-connection/colleges/college/view-stats/?cid=

In your list of colleges, you can see the college ID in the URL when you point to the link for that college. For example, Stanford is: https://connection.naviance.com/family-connection/colleges/college/view-stats/?cid=4704

Similarly, the link for the old scattergram is https://connection.naviance.com/family-connection/colleges/scattergram/?cid= where you add the college ID at the end.

Awesome, @Ynotgo , thanks! Exactly what I was looking for.
