@Postmodern Just took a look at the new Naviance for the first time and wow I totally agree - they took away all the data, made it look prettier but I prefer data to aesthetics. Very appreciative of @Ynotgo and @Dolemite for providing those links to the historical pages, hopefully they stay active.
Isn’t it a shame how often they seem to be mutually exclusive?
Our old data went back almost 10 years. Now we get 2? Some of you are saying your SAT score adjusted… what do you mean? Your student’s score are “higher” or the graph itself adjusted. On mine, my son still shows up with 1480 (New SAT). If it were to be adjusted it would go down according to the scattergram. Or did the scattergram results change?
Boy am I glad my S17’s EAs are in and I don’t really need to look at the data anymore (just think it’s interesting). I’m also glad my S focused on the ACT so I don’t have to worry about adjusting up or down to compare.
UGH! Class of '17 had an interesting road with testing. It will be interesting to see how the admissions decisions are affected.
@phoenixmomof2 I think it is only the old SAT scores that were adjusted via the concordance to what they would be on the new SAT. This only shows if you view the 1600 scale, which is regular for new SAT and CR+M for old SAT. For most old SAT scores, that raises the score. (Above some level–maybe 1560?–the scores are the same on both.)
@Ynotgo Thanks for the link to the old data. Where can I find a college’s naviance ID number?
@Ynotgo - I guess I’m wondering about the items on the Scattergram. Most of those are the “old” SAT. So, were those adjusted too?
@phoenixmomof2 Yes, it looks as though all of the old SAT 1600 scores have been adjusted to concord with the new SAT scoring… i.e… mostly moved up.
@Postmodern @Ynotgo I can’t believe how much data has been lost with this new Naviance. How can this be? The app history used to be so helpful. And also, they redesigned the scattergram (which is easier to see) but its still not perfect. How about some options to view/hide different results - like rejections, acceptances, etc. They made the symbol of the student so large, that you can’t see the results underneath it when there your student has the same stats as a previous student. Ugh.
@suzyQ7 I agree! I have played a lot of “If I Designed Naviance”. It would be great! lol…
Some of the commercial sites have the option to filter by acceptances, rejections, WL, etc, and it is very useful. It’s also not hard to do technically. There must be some reasoning behind obscuring the data access – I am thinking it is so parents are forced to stay “big picture” and not parse out an answer they want. But that is just a guess.
I just noticed a new section that graphs the student vs other students in the school or vs other students across the country. Its nice.
They need to bring back the high school’s applied/accepted students by year. The new naviance only shows the past 3 years, but the scattergram shows 5 or 10 years.
@suzyQ7 Where is this new section that you found?
Click on a college. In the default "college overview’ scroll all the way to the bottom. section is in green and titled:
“How you compare with other students from your high school who have been accepted to XXX University”.
@suzyQ7 I just looked, ours doesn’t have that. This is the feature that compares you to other students across the country?
Also, sometimes the scattergrams are shown under the Admissions tab, and sometimes they only have a chart of Admission Requirements. I literally was looking at a school’s scattergram an hour ago, and now it won’t show up.
@suzyQ7 I checked out this feature yesterday but found it to be highly inaccurate. For example, it showed the average GPA for acceptance to Brown as 3.0. Today, the feature appears to have been removed. Even the scattergram itself is no longer there.
I checked that feature in our Naviance and it works fine but it is obviously stats only so I did not find it much helpful for holistic schools. I might be missing something but I did not gain any more info for my Ds chances. I like the scatter grams more that show the trends. She is now interested in two schools with the same acceptance rate. The one school has a clear trend with gpa and SAT. The other schools has more random dots clearly going more for fit. So although the averages are about the same she knows her chances are not.
The reason I miss the historical acceptance/rejection by year by school is because selectivity has changed over the year. The scattergram does not tell you that the last person accepted to Yale at your school was accepted 6 years ago - the historical chart on the old Naviance did.
@kidzncatz was that average for brown “Compare me to my high school” or “Compare me for all accepted students”
If its high school - you may have had an athlete that threw off the averages.
@suzyQ7 All accepted students. None of the applicants from our high school were accepted, so that wasn’t an option.
Anyone else Naviance change again?? Our new SAT’s have been unweighted.
