Any Diet Pepsi drinkers?

^
ahh…In 'n Out…so yummy! I wish we had them in the South.

That said, I love Coke Zero so much that I find myself actually choosing restaurants based on whether they serve it or not.

My name is DosChicos and I, too, am a Coke Zero addict. (or Diet Dr. Pepper as a second choice). Never have liked coffee.

^^
I would start a 12 Step program but I’m afraid they’d all include restaurant stops.

With diet coke, I drink it straight. If a restaraunt serves diet Pepsi, I ask for a splash of regular on top. Something about the flavor of the diet is off…

I find myself leaning towards restaurants that have the neat little ice cube balls. Weird, I know. But they make the drink better somehow.

I don’t think there is anything more disappointing when eating out than discovering they’re pepsi not coke. I love coke zero. I don’t drink it often, but real coke tastes like syrup to me. I’m trying to stop all the artificial sweeteners in my life and interestingly I crave less sugar now. But once in a while I’ll have a coke zero. It’s funny - I ask - are you coke or pepsi? Oh pepsi, I’ll have water.

I’ve cared about my figure and health all my life. Have never weighed more than 110 pounds except when pregnant. Still a size 2. Have occasionally tried a diet soda when served at a restaurant because they refuse to believe a female would order a regular. I can’t drink it. Tastes like chemicals.

Lots of people refuse to believe scientific studies that they disagree with. Doesn’t make it not true. Everybody I know, at least the fit and healthy ones use sugar instead of artificial sweeteners. Only the overweight people I know drink diet soft drinks.

Well, I have been a competitive runner (and triathlete for awhile) for 40 years and would say it’s about 90/10 diet drinks to regular among the “fit and healthy” in those circles except during long endurance events when we go with sugared drinks. I assure you that I am fit and healthy.

I am not advocating artificial sweeteners. I don’t think they are good for you and in a perfect world, we wouldn’t use them. Sugar is bad, too, though. It’s just calories most of us don’t need.

I feel like I’ve hit the lottery when I find Diet Pepsi at a restaurant instead of Diet Coke. I also like Diet Dr. Pepper.

I started a thread here on cc last year: Help me wean myself off of Diet Coke. It worked…for a few months and now I’m back. Diet Coke OR Diet Pepsi, surprisingly, I’ll take either or. One can a day @ 3pm. Is that bad?!? Hope not. I look forward to it each day!!

Correlation doesn’t equal causation (and not just referring to you, also talking about the study referenced earlier). There are all kinds of confounding variables possible with an examination of that type.

DH is tall and pretty lean. And he is a sugar addict. He drinks full sugar Dr. Peppers every single day. Eats desserts. Eats all kinds of carbs. He apparently has one hell of an ability to metabolize refined carbohydrates. Low blood pressure, no health problems of any kind. Well, until he got colon cancer 7.5 years ago, but even then his recovery went textbook perfect.

I’m going to try to start weaning him a bit from all that sugar though. It just isn’t good to consume that much.

DH works for Coca-Cola. When we go out and the restaurant only has Pepsi the kids order water instead.

I like Coke Zero better than Diet Coke.

Absolutely! There is no comparison.

Even H has begun drinking Coke Zero. Last weekend, I had to chuckle when he had a hopeful look on his face when he asked a restaurant if they had Coke Zero. Yay, they did!

:sipping Coke Zero in Jason’s Deli right now!..with a lemon slice, of course!:

So they ask a bunch of overweight people if they gain weight even though they drink diet colas…that’s a scientific study? I realize there have been other studies, but some of them are just stupid. Oh- you eat donuts with your diet sodas? You must crave sugar because of the diet cola.

I drink A LOT of Diet Pepsi. I preferred the Diet Vanilla Pepsi to the regular, but I think that’s been discontinued. I don’t drink either coffee or iced tea, so diet soda is my method of caffeine consumption. I hope the new version doesn’t take much adjustment.

FWIW I have both gained and lost a significant amount of weight without changing my consumption of diet soda. I find, for me personally, that my willpower and self control isn’t really tied to my choice of beverage and that if I’m motivated to count my calories and exercise regularly I can lose weight without issue while continuing to drink diet soda. YMMV

I don’t drink a lot of soda but I’ve worked for major food companies and weight management services. Trust me, when you do focus groups, the slender fit ones drink water or diet soda and the heavy ones drink real cola and rationalize the calories by claiming that artificial sweeteners are bad for you.

Artificial sweeteners ARE bad for you, in my opinion worse than added sugar, which is pretty bad. You can be skinny and unhealthy. Weight is not everything. Healthy weight through healthy food is what really matters.

My younger son has been getting on my case about artificial sweeteners. I do try to balance things by also drinking unsweet iced tea, which is probably one of the healthier beverages one can drink.

Really, diet or regular, I am just surprised at how many posters drink soda in general. My impression was that soda was on a downward slide.

During the school year I live out West in an area know for extreme sports and a very young demographic. People here are also very environmentally conscious. Very few people drink soda and everyone, including children, tote around their own water bottle that just gets refilled. I am on board with the water but still buy mine bottled and endure the glares when drinking it in public or at the gym. I have a teenage son and what his age group seems to prefer is something called a “Dust Cutter” which is half unsweetened tea and half lemonade. Not sure if they are sold elsewhere.

Back East where I raised my children and still spend part of the year, it was not that much different. I remember the parents pushing my children’s school to take the soda machine out of the gym. It was accomplished in a week. Teachers sent home notes saying bottled water was the “preferred” beverage if your child was bringing a lunch. Only water, ice tea and OJ were available in the cafeteria. Think they had lemonade in the spring. It never really affected us one way or another - my children were never big soda drinkers but were free to order it when we went to a restaurant.

The iced tea/lemonade mix is called an Arnold Palmer. I like them. Soda consumption has definitely declined, but there are still plenty of folks that drink it. I wish a I didn’t like it- but a I do.

Same as momofwildchild and mom2collegekids. I know it is bad for me. My kids drink zero soda and mainly just water. I’ve tried cutting back and go through periods of time where I drink little to none and then fall back into drinking it. I eat very little processed food except for diet soda. Wish I didn’t but I do.

And no bottled water for me and my family. My kids have set me straight on that front and are still working on my diet soda consumption.
