Pepsi reformulates its diet drink by replacing Aspartame with other sweeteners. Coke stays put.
I cannot stand the aftertaste of aspartame, but I will not rush to grab a can of Diet Pepsi any time soon.

I think coke just came up with a sort of hybrid version of a diet-ish coke. I bought it for my husband , but he didn’t care for it. I don’t recall what they called it, but it was with a green label
^Coke Life - a mix of sugar and stevia. Originated first in Argentina, I believe.
I love Diet Coke, has to be ice cold in a can. That tang of aluminum and slightly bitter aftertaste of aspartame — yum!!!
I love Diet Pepsi but try to limit. I hope I like the new one.
Aspartame makes me woozy.
I drink a diet soda once a month max. On the rare occasion I do indulge, it’s diet Dr. Pepper all the way.
My favorite growing up was RC Cola. Always hated diet soda because of that “chemically” aftertaste. Once in a great while I do crave a coke - usually if I am indulging in a burger or a hot dog. Where I live they sell the bottled “mexican” cokes that they market in Mexico. It is made with real sugar rather than the high fructose corn syrup. It has a slightly better taste in my opinion.
I can’t drink non-diet sodas. They are too sweet and sticky.
I find it rather interesting that a food giant would completely reformulate one of its cash cows.
I’m not a big soda drinker in general - maybe a can a month - but it always amazes me that people still drink the regular ones. The diet ones came out what, 25 years ago? Everyone I knew who cared even a bit about their figure / health “migrated” to diet way back when, and haven’t touched regular colas in years. It just feels like the ship sailed on that one a long time ago! I agree with MOWC that the regular ones are just sickeningly sweet.
? There’s all sorts of studies that show that driking diet sodas doesn’t help with weight control. It’s the other way around :

More evidence that diet soda contributes to weight gain, not weight loss

Researchers found a significant correlation between reported consumption of artificial sweeteners, gut bacteria configurations, and an inclination to developing glucose intolerance.

(I don’t drink soda at all, of any kind. I never bought soda as my kids were growing up, so they never picked up the soda habit either. My son was always a big juice drinker, but I’m off juice these days too. I just drink herbal teas to satisfy my desire for a flavored drink. )
It’s funny because I don’t know anyone who drinks the “diet” sodas. Not that any of us are big soda drinkers to begin with - I probably have 2 or 3 during the summer months at BBQ’s. My children don’t really drink it either - once in a while when we are out having a pizza or a burger. We do not keep it in the house so maybe that contributes to the lack of interest. All of my friends are lemonade, ice tea or wine drinkers. I like sparkling water with a splash of POM for my “go to” beverage.

Ditto here. We also use a splash of lingonberry syrup from IKEA.
I don’t drink any soda any more, but when I did, it was never diet. I found them to be a a lot more unhealthy than regular ones (calories in my opinion not being the indication of healthiness).
Sparkling water for me too
I’m in love with Coke Zero! Totally…and if I squeeze a little lemon in…divine!!!
I hardly know anyone who doesn’t drink diet sodas! Of course, I’ve lived in pretty warm climates for the last 40 years or so. I think sugared sodas are disgusting. I also don’t buy into the studies about the diet drinks leading to weight gain. I think it’s mainly a case of overweight folks thinking they are “ok” to eat more since they are drinking diet drinks. I’ve never had a problem with it causing cravings or weight gain.
That said, as I’ve posted on other threads, I am not supposed to drink many diet colas due to bone density issues. They are definitely a problem for women and bone density. My endo dr. said having a few a week is fine. I was never a 12 pack a day person- maybe 2 or 3 at the most and often just 1 in the morning. I’m not a coffee drinker, and I try to mainly drink iced tea for my caffeine fix, but I do love my diet colas.
I don’t drink many sodas, but when I do, it’s diet. I also don’t eat fast food often (but Chipotle is growing on me). Every once in a great while I do get a Big Mac, fries, and yep… A diet coke.
“Every once in a great while I do get a Big Mac, fries, and yep… A diet coke.”
I always thought it was funny that people made fun of this. Just because someone might decide to splurge on a Big Mac and fries doesn’t mean that they should go whole hog and also drink real coke too!
Exactly! An In 'n Out cheeseburger with ketchup and mustard instead of the spread and a diet coke is a reasonably healthy – and yummy – lunch at 400 calories. Add some fries and a regular coke and things go downhill fast.
