Hi -
My daughter will be studying abroad this summer, hopefully in Asia. I noticed a few US colleges have campuses overseas and have summer offerings - namely:
NYU Shanghai Campus
Temple University in Japan
There are also a lot of Asian campuses - such as Hangyang University - which run through affiliates or directly through certain schools - in this case, U of Arizona.
In addition to NYU and Temple listed above, have any parents on here had students who attended school abroad through one of the affiliates many colleges use:
APR
CIEE
ISEP
USAC
Or actual experiences at Asian colleges like Hangyang?
If so, where did your student go and how was the experience. Did the organization deliver a wonderful experience?
I’d like to ensure these organizations are legit - and preferably focusing on any Asian experiences.
Thanks for any direct feedback on these organizations you would have.

Often times, students can contact programs like these directly and ask to be put in contact with program alums. Your daughter might be able to get more detailed and recent information that way.
Usually programs alums willing to be contacted are honest about sharing the good, the bad and the ugly about their experiences with the program…and the programs themselves want that. No one wants unhappy students overseas.

Yes, asking for student ambassadors is already on the list - if my daughter has interest and the curriculums appear, on paper at least, to be a fit.
She did this with a few schools undergrad and for her Washington DC Semester too.
Thanks

You may want to specify where in Asia. From your other posts, your D has language studies in Chinese… would Chinese speaking locations be preferred? Although I see the Temple Japan option so I could be off base.
My kid will be in New Delhi for a few weeks this semester… also Asia but I’m guessing that would not be ideal for your D.
I hope you get feedback on these programs or suggestions of similar ones that may be worth researching.
Any Asia will be good. It’s more likely a Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore but totally open.
If we get really lucky the second C of C trip will go but unlikely.
Most the affiliates like UCAS and CIEE are on campuses. But if someone can validate their child’s experience it just gives comfort (to me).
The second below won’t happen - like last year. Now hoping for the first.

I’m somewhat familiar with the Temple Japan program, although not as a parent. As a lawyer, I worked with student interns from the Temple Law summer program. Temple Japan operates as an integrated part of Temple University and is really like a US university in Japan. The school recently moved to a new campus in a neat part of Tokyo. If they have the right program, I think it would be a fun place to spend time.
