Any Drexel Questions/Prospective/Accepted Students

You might have problems transferring after just one term. Drexel works on a quarter system, while most other schools are on a semester system. The credits won’t be equal and it’s likely that some or all of your fall term classes won’t count at the new school. It’s better to transfer after one full year since 3 quarters = 2 semesters.

I received a 21,500 dollar scholarship (AJ Drexel). I will be entering the Engineer School in the Fall if I do decide on here. I plan on doing the 5 year (3 co-op) degree. The tuition is approximately 32,000 or so. Will I get 21,500 off ALL 5 years of the program? Because if I went for 4 years, it would be 40,000 a year (same net tuition spread it over 4 years, not five). So, it just doesn’t add up for me to get it for 5 years (although I hope that is the case, and my letter did not lead me to believe it would only be for 4 years. Additionally, if I am exempt from 5 classes, and that takes off some of my total credits, how will that factor into my total tuition costs/scholarship deductons.

With this scholarship and three 6 month periods of Co-ops, i would practically get all my tuition paid for. If everything goes well, that is.

Taylor52594-My son was also admitted for eng. w/3 coop/5yr. plan and did receive the AJ Drexel as you. Our understanding from the letter is that it covers the fifth year and the stafford loan amount, aprx. 7500. should apply as well. Our research has shown that the coop opportunity at Drexel is top in the country and you are much more prepared for the work field. We have not been to the school just yet and when we do we plan to delve much deeper into this topic. Hope this helps.

How realistic is it to expect working in the coop program to help you to pay for college costs? Also, how do the living arrangements work when you’re doing coop?

What percentage of students lose their scholarships due to a GPA below 3.0?

Question about admissions - Will I get in? I personally doubt it, but I just would like to think I have even the slightest chance.
3.0 GPA with 15 AP/Honors classes
27 ACT (23 Math, 23 Science, 30 English, 32 Reading, & 11 Essay)
And does Drexel wait-list students?

To give you an idea, I’ll provide my financials from my last co-op in 1987. Tuition was something like $9000 / year and I was making $9.50/hour. For a six month co-op cycle, my gross was $9880. Take home pay was obviously less but I covered the year’s tuition with co-op and a loan. No family contribution required.

I lived on-campus during all of my co-ops but not in the dorms. Some students moved home for co-op or went to a different location and rented an apartment. Most worked within commuting distance and stayed on-campus.

Attached is the Drexel link on their coop program and to the right is the PDF file which shows average income from the coop experience. I read somewhere that you could stay on campus during your coop but we would have to learn more on our visit to better understand cost vs value.

If you’re accepted in the 1 co-op program, can you switch to the 5 year program before you enroll?
Thanks for all the other helpful answers by the way.

I know it’s been a LONG time, but is this thread still alive, and is Zackk still here?
