Any experiences with Carvana?

It looks like we’re going to have to buy yet another new (used) car in the next few months. Does anyone have experiences (good or bad) with Carvana?

No, but I love those huge vending machines. How do they get the cars up there? Do you think it actually works?

I’ve seen these in a couple of cities. @romanigypsyeyes do let us know!

My personal trainer and his wife just bought a car from them and so far are very happy with the process. They had thoroughly researched the car, including several test drives, before going through carvanha

If I were buying a used car, I’d prefer to buy a Certified Preowned one from the dealer. You get the warranty and so forth. I don’t know if Carvana does that sort of thing.

They just opened one of those car vending machines here. I haven’t seen it move yet- well, what are the chances that I’d be going by just as someone dropped the giant coin?

I’ve gotten used cars that were not CPO from a dealer…both from Carite. @romanigypsyeyes is there a Carite near you?

@thumper1 I do. My dad is actually friends with someone who owns a carite and I checked there when we were looking for a car last spring. I completely forgot - I’ll have to reach out to him and see what he has.

If you are buying a relatively recent model year, be sure to compare with new prices (after rebates, discounts, etc.), since (in the other used car thread) there was mention of some makes and models holding their value well enough that a used car can be more expensive than a new one.

My daughter bought one though Car Guru last year. She knew what she wanted and we went to the dealer ‘just to look.’ She found one she liked but I didn’t think it was a good deal and didn’t like the high pressure sales. She went online and found one at a dealer about 1 hour away. I left and came home, we did the whole deal over the phone, they sent me the papers and I fedex’d them back, she had a friend driver her to the dealer and she picked it up. I think it was a good deal except they required she buy the ‘dealer warranty’ which included things like oil changes for life, but she doesn’t live near the dealership. If she’d ever near there, she can get one.

It was still cheaper at the second dealership than at the first, it was a ‘better’ color, and we didn’t feel any pressure. She loves it.

My S bought a nearly new car recently from some other used car company. Can’t remember the name offhand but it wasn’t a rental company nor carite nor caravana. I can ask him if you’d like. It is a recent model Acura, I believe.

We have a subcompact from carvana. A friend at work had a good experience with two cars from them. They figured that it was only a couple hundred more than bargaining with the dealer for a used car… we also had a good experience with them there was no vending machine yet but they just showed up with our car riding on a tow truck. The money was already deducted from our account. we signed for it and now it’s ours 2000 miles later still love this car!
