D25 just found out she is accepted, but we don’t know much about it. I’d love experiences.
From their website it isn’t a separate Honor College but is termed the University Honors Program. You might want to have your D contact the Honors College to see if they can put her in contact with a current student or two that she can call to talk about the program.
Honors colleges offer perks in addition to the classes. Typical ones include early registration so you get the classes you want (a perk worth its weight in gold!), special counselors, guaranteed housing, special library privileges. Your diploma will proudly bear the honors insignia.
Looking at their website https://honors.dasa.ncsu.edu/ it seems like a program on the weaker side. They have a honors residence which is a plus, but they don’t mention anything about early registration. There is a surcharge of a few hundred dollars per year to belong to honors. They say “In order to successfully complete the University Honors Program, students are required to complete 6 additional hours of approved coursework by the time they graduate.” which to me sounds like an experience barely distinguishable from the rest of the students. The counseling sound restricted as well; the website says “They cannot advise you on academic coursework requirements for your degree program”
If she’s going to NC State anyway it’s probably worth participating but it doesn’t sound at first glance like a reason to choose that school over other acceptances.
i didn’t know NC State started notifying already…has anyone else been admitted? We also applied EA and for the honors college. so same question for me on honors too.
My kiddo was a semi finalist for the Park, so that may be why she already knows.
what’s the park?
