Any former Adcom officers here?

How do the adcoms deal with grade deflation in some schools?
Thank you!

Keep in mind that class rank is an indicator of grading. Test scores also help to indicate grading–inflating or deflating. And many schools have adcoms who are regional specialists, so they are aware of how difficult a high school is.

So how about this:
I took 17 APs (took and taking) 6+11
My transcript is AWFUL. No Cs,… but GPA of 3.6UW! and 3.86W.
My SAT is 2370; took 4 subject tests all 800. i am thinking of taking SATI again, just to be safe. I think after 65+ practice tests I can get that last 30 points!
Class rank: currently top 10% of class of 121, but probably be top 5% during senior year.

Applying to: Wharton, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Brown, Cornell. (Reaches)
Maybe Yale but not sure.

Thanks MD Mom!
random, but: I learned English 5 years ago. So I was in ESL in 7th grade.

Do include some safeties in your applications! You will find that the higher ranked the school is, the bigger pain the application is.

You will be able to address your second language/immigrant experiences in your applications. Will you probably be a NM semifinalist as well?

I PMed you.

Thank you MD Mom.
Best wishes to you too!

lebron–Your transcript is not awful. You have great stats. Given those alone, I think you will be accepted into at least one of the schools you listed.

You did not identify any of your EC’s, interests or any of the other stuff that makes you a “fit.” That’s the stuff that gets you noticed above other applicants.

Thank you again morismm!
I can PM you my ECs; I didn’t want to disclose my stats.
But let me assure you- it is VERY interesting!

Thank you!

Don’t take the SAT again. Your stats are fine. Your grades probably are too. You’ve already taken too many APs. What makes you interesting? What’s going to make the admissions committee think this person would really be a fun addition to the mix? I hope you have safeties in mind, because I don’t think any of the schools you listed are anything but reaches for everyone.

Definitely do NOT take the SAT’s again. The chance of your score going up the 30 points is very small - the chance of your scores going down, very high. Your scores are practically perfect in every way and there is no benefit to getting them any higher.

If you are an Asian, you won’t appear as typical if your scores are not as perfect, and have more main stream ECs.

Here are my ECs.
PM me.

I don’t think THAT many Asians have perfect scores. They usually fall in the ranges of 2250-2350.

2400s are rare.

And yes, I have realized that I am a very interesting person. I just hate varsity tennis, math clubs, USAMO and USABO, NHS (Since When was community service a noblesse oblige thing?), and pianos.

Well, I am unique!
