Any four year colleges I have a shot at? :(

Hello everyone,

I am a senior at a public high school in Maine. I’m getting worried right about now because of my horrible high school career.

My average grade is a 79 unweighted. Yes, that’s about 20 points lower than the average on this site, and I know I slacked off. I’m a chronic underachiever who is trying to change. My average grade in my freshman year was in the high 60s, the next year it was in the mid 70s. Last year it was in the high 80s/90. This year it is looking to be better than that even (though theres no real way of knowing).

I have 2 AP classes and 1 honors class under my belt, I got A’s and B’s both semesters for all of them as well as 2 more APs this year. It seems like the classes that are easy make me lose motivation to do homework and take notes because they seem like such jokes.

Anyway, yes I realize I brought this on myself, my class rank is low (not sure exactly what it is). I’m wondering though, what four year schools could I possibly get in to? I might go to Community College for two years, do something I love, do well, and then transfer to a good school. However, I really want to go to a University.

Any suggestions?

Oh yeah… and my SAT Score is ~1950. Played varsity football for two years, steady job through high school.

There are 4-year colleges for almost everyone. You’re no worse than lots of people.

Have you met with your Guidance Counselor?

My guidance counselor, unfortunately, does not want to help anyone.

Your SATs are great. Do you think you could pull up your GPA to >80 in the next quarter? There are quite a few SUNY schools that could be good for you, and the price is still affordable for an OOS student.

80 tends to be a cut-off for many schools.

maybe university of maine? there are definetly schools within your state that would take you. and if you care to look harder… you will find smaller, less known schools in other states that you have a good shot at.

emphasize the upward trend. and your SATs are very good for your GPA. you definetly can make it to a four year college. just look at all of your options and apply to as many schools as possible.
