Any Good Recently Opened Colleges?

I was talking with my research mentor lately and he mentioned there was a new college that had (very) recently opened and was offering really good scholarships to attract students.

That got me thinking; does anyone else know any recently opened/founded colleges, that preferably focus/are good in the sciences, and which offer really nice money as a way of luring students? A google search yielded nothing, and I’ll probably end up going to the best school that offers me the most money, so any help would be appreciated.

If academic requirements are a question, i’ll list some of my basic info

SAT I)

CR 800 / Math 760 (i got nosebleed so that took up half of my time) / W 800 (E 12 : MC 76)

Rank 1/~450, 4.0 GPA on a 4.0 College Scale in a MA school

Help would be great, thanks in advance

Frank W Olin. So far as I know, it’s exactly what you’ve specified.

Agree with Lirazel. The school used to offer full scholarships for everyone admitted but now, because of the economy, it offers only half tuition scholarships. Still a bargain, though, if you’re interested in engineering at all.

Nice! thanks a lot guys. I’m more interested in pre-med but thats just a matter of taking the right preparatory courses. Any other not-so-recently opened schools that are looking to attract students and that offer good scholarships?

Are you a probable National Merit [Semi-]Finalist? If so, check out http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1065225574-post313.html</a> . If you aren’t sure, what was your PSAT score?

226 in MA, but i don’t have my US citizenship/green card so i wont be eligible

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology

They’ll pay for your US undergraduate education if you promise to do your master’s there.

^that would be such an experience!

Oh, also maybe NYU Abu Dhabi? They were recruiting one of my friends veryyyyy heavily. (Free round trip plane tickets + accommodations + eating? That’s a lot of $!) Although NYU is expensive, they probably want to fill up that campus, which might be difficult.

ixington, where did you hear that about KAUST?

Harvard.

But don’t try giving them that tired old dog-ate-my-homework, “nosebleed” excuse for sub-perfect SAT scores.

sorry for not responding, i hadn’t checked cc for a while. Thank you, those seem to be great options and I will certainly look into them.

But tk, my nosebleed excuse is true =P

Olin is almost exactly what you specified- but keep in mind that it’s only a college of engineering. They’ve only got three majors: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Communications Engineering, and Engineering - General. (There are a couple of concentrations for that last one: Bioengineering, Computing, Materials Science, and Systems.) College Board says that 2% of their students have gone on to med school within one year of finishing undergrad.

How about UC Merced? I don’t think the first class has ever graduated yet…
Michelle Obama came over to speak there when the university opened I believe.

Olin is dope.

Yeah, I think Olin is what the guy i was talking to was thinking about. Hopefully they offer the usual pre-med courses, if they don’t i can always take them in the summer at another school.

TheSaiyans, I’ve never heard about UC Merced. Do they offer good scholarships? I always thought that the UC system tried to make money by inviting out of state students, since they’re not offered too much money.

Wow, i just did a TON of research on NYU Abu Dhabi and it seems to be absolutely PERFECT. Thanks Lirazel, it seems they are searching for students with high SAT scores and they’re willing to pay a lot to do so.

Since I would have trouble getting financial aid due to my non-citizenship, this would be epic. I think I have a new top-choice =)

There are definitely Olin graduates in med school, in fact, I believe they now have their first MD grad after only 5 graduating classes!
You have to be careful about your course selection from the start, and perhaps even take some classes during the summer. What could be more valuable these days than a physician with an undergrad engineering degree? So many options…

thats certainly true siusplau. Schmaltz, i’ll take a look, although i’m not too optimistic about my mom letting me leave new england lol
