Hey CC folk, I was just wondering if there were any Climbers/Hikers on CC.

Also, if you are a hiker/climber, what’s your favorite climb/favorite peak you climbed?

I’ll start. Mt. Washington 6288’, not the largest I’ve climbed, but one of the most beautiful climbs. If you’re into superlatives, also the tallest mountain in the North-East (East of the Rockies and North of North Carolina).

I am! Mostly through scouts but I’ve been going a lot with friends as well.

I’ve climbed the tallest mountain in the east! (Mount Mitchell), which wasn’t actually difficult.

I think my favorite experience was probably Cold Mountain, because there’s the book and movie (both of which are pretty good) that takes place there. Also the view, especially of nearby Shining Rock, was beautiful.

I really enjoy hiking Pilot Mountain, because it can be done in 1-3 hours (depending on the trail), and it stands pretty much on its own, so you can see surrounding cities that are a while away.

My dream is to hike to AT, though I have no idea how I’d ever afford it.

I’m not really a true hiker…but I hiked a 3000’ mountain in Virginia. It was Old Rag Mountain. There were rock scrambles at the top which made it very challenging. I finished the 8 mile loop in about 5 hours.

Used to hike [Blackett's Ridge Trail, Sabino Canyon, Tucson, Arizona - YouTube](<a href=“Blackett's Ridge Trail, Sabino Canyon, Tucson, Arizona - YouTube”>Blackett's Ridge Trail, Sabino Canyon, Tucson, Arizona - YouTube) twice a month back when I lived in Arizona. Beautiful.

“True hiker” is a really odd term. I mean, I’ve spent a lot of weekends camping and hiking, but I don’t know if I’m really a hiker, because I don’t have all the fancy gear and have never hiked anything over 10,000 feet. I guess it depends whether hiking is the focus of your life, or just a hobby. For me (for most of us?), school is probably a priority.

And I too would love to hike the AT, but i don’t have 5 or 6 months and almost unlimited funds. Unfortunately.

YES! I live in Colorado and I absolutely love hiking and backpacking. I’ve made 26 successful 14er (peak over 14,000’) summits in the past six or so years and I’ve also done a couple of week-long backpacking trips in the Sawatch range and the Collegiate range (my favorite, it’s so impossibly beautiful there – we camped at a lake near the base of Mt. Yale and it was the loveliest three days of my life). I love peak hikes. Anything with over 3k vertical makes for an excellent day. My favorite peaks are Massive, La Plata, and Yale, in case any other Coloradans are also enthusiasts and want to know. I need to get to some of the south peaks, I’ve only ever done Sawatch/Front Range/Tenmiles.

My high school has an Alpine Club led by this super cool math teacher/outdoor enthusiast (also he’s British - we have tea on summits sometimes) so during the school year I am often climbing shorter peaks or snowshoeing. It’s funny because the vast majority of Alpine Club kids are super nerdy driven student-type people so we always have conversations about, like, calculus and politics while we’re hiking.

I really want to do some serious hiking in the East. Hiking the AT, or at least part of it, would be amazing.
