I am deathly terrified of spiders. To the point that if I see them, I was scream and run away. I’ve been trying to get over this fear for years but no luck.
Normally around spring time, we have those little house spiders. This year, once we sprayed the anti-spider spray, they all went away. But now we have these big spiders (when I say big I mean about the size of a daddy long legs) in the house. We can’t figure out where they’re coming from but I’ve woken up my spouse and roommate almost every night for a week because I see one and scream. I need them gone!
Any ideas? We already tried spraying both inside and outside the house with the anti-spider spray that usually works…
We have a horrendous Daddy Long Leg spider issue, I make it my mission to use the hand held vacuum with the long nozzle and remove them. The spider webs happen so fast, I feel like I am living in the haunted mansion! I am not at all afraid of the Daddy Long leg ones as they move slowly but I no longer take them outside, they keep sneaking back in and making my house look horrid.
Are yours floor or ceiling spiders, I find the ceiling ones less offensive as they are not likely to fall down on me, I hate when I see the big wolf spiders, huge and fast, scurrying!
They seem to be wall spiders. I haven’t seen them on the ceiling or floor yet. I found one on my dresser and several low ish on the walls. One did come down from the ceiling… that was the last straw for me since it was only about 2 feet from my face.
They are fast and I don’t know what type of spider they are because I absolutely refuse to google spiders!
We have newts and scorpions and they help keep down the spider population but truth be told I’d rather have the spiders then the scorpions in the house.
Ok if I had to choose between the spiders and scorpions, I’d probably choose the spiders. Luckily we don’t have scorpions in Michigan. Where I live, spiders are pretty much the worst pests. Ok, well spiders and mosquitoes. knock on wood
I’ll have Mr R do another round of spraying around the house- inside and out.
romaigy…do you have a basement? (I assume if you are in Michigan you do)does it have windows that open or are older and not properly sealing? also do you have large trees around your home that possibly have branches touching the roof?
No idea. I love spiders! They catch mosquitos and flies! We have spiders and house centipedes. The house centipedes eat spiders (and ants) but I hate them–they’re really scary. They don’t stay put, like spiders.
dmd77 spiders scare me! as a child I was bitten several times. my fault but the pain was… holy moly ( nice wording for my friends on college confidential)
I don’t know if this will console you, but Daddy Long Legs are not spiders and they do not bite. As kids my brother and I used to pick them up and let them walk on our arms. And they do keep other pests in check.
If that doesn’t help, there is a long-handled spider catcher that you can use to grab and release outdoors: http://mycrittercatcher.com/
We have spiders and scorpions. While Terro Spider Spray is the best pesticide I’ve found available to consumers, I also use sticky traps. They’re just pieces of white cardboard coated with a very sticky glue. Some people use them for vermin, too. You can find boxes of 70+ traps on Amazon for a reasonable price compared to buying a few at a time from a hardware/big box store.
On a side note, after years of those little ants trying to invade my kitchen, we tried Terro brand liquid ant bait. It works better than I had hoped. The reviews on Amazon.com are quite entertaining.
To clarify- the spiders aren’t daddy long legs, they’re just the size of them.
Logically, I know that they do good but I am absolutely terrified of them. Have been since as long as I can remember. I don’t know where I picked it up from because my parents and sister aren’t bothered by them.
Yes, I do have a basement and we’re surrounded by trees. And actually, I don’t think we sprayed the spider stuff down in the basement. We’ll have to do that.
Get a medium-sized praying mantis if you can. They are bug and spider killing machines. A mantis patrols its territory the same way a panther prowls its jungle.
One day, on my screened porch, I watched a spider wrap up a huge roach that had been caught in its web-- you know, like the giant spider did to Frodo in LOTR. Yay spider! Would much rather have the spider than the roach. Just wish the webs were’t so messy–they are quite amazing things.
Down here in south Florida we get those little anole lizards inside the house now and then. They’re great for keeping small insects under control! Some people are creeped out by them (mainly transplants from up north) but they don’t bother me - I’m a native! B-)
Lol patsmom. When I was in central America, the geckos and other lizard things didn’t bother me. I woke up one time to one of the little lizards (geckos? I don’t know the differences…) right above my bed. That did give me a start but there’s just something about spiders that makes me NOPE.
@scipio you have Mr. R intrigued. How would that work? Do we go get one as a pet store or…? And then would we leave it out in the yard or the house or…? And would our dog try to eat it (she tries to eat flies and spiders but is dumb so can never catch them… she also chases squirrels but is afraid of birds)?
