anyone have an idea?

Any hope? Hope springs eternal, so you should have hope. Anything can happen if something in your essay or recommendations tickle the AdComm’s fancy, but you are not among the stronger applicants.

in all honesty - i applied early decision with similar stats (higher SAT’s, slightly lower rank) without applying for financial aid and I was rejected.

your advantage is:

1) you’re from NY state which is much easier than NJ since its a larger state and they want NY people
2) no ones applying from your school – mine used to be that way but this year 30 applied.

good luck!

I don’t want to say you’re automatically in, however the applicants that got in and attended Vanderbilt with me that were from rural NY had scores worse than you. Therefore, I wouldn’t say you’re an extremely strong candidate, but for diversity purposes, I’m sure you would be a strong candidate from NY state. I would say that the class rank not being in the top 10% does hurt your chances. Overall, I think your chances are pretty good, but you never know because the applicant pool grows every year. Your essay may be the difference.

dardar, it looks like we applied to some of the same schools, what other schools did u apply to?

Again strt your own thread. (sry shubis)

I would say both have a good shot… stats look above average… but who knows… the applicant pool grew 30% this last year… thats a lot of competition!
