Any idea which of these schools (if any) will close the need gap?

Widener Accepted no $ yet
Albright Accepted with Merit
McDaniel with merit
Ursinus still waiting
Wooster still waiting

Montclair and Stockton are fall backs because I live in NJ and I know he can get between 10 and 18K merit

His EFC is like 10 grand FTR.

What does each college’s net price calculator say?

Typically, merit = institutional aid.
You can thus add federal aid (5.5K federal loans) and any state or other grant. That’d give you an idea for Albright.

Typically, Wooster, Juniata, Susquehanna, Allegheny are more generous than Albright. (It’s not too late to apply there if you haven’t).

Montclair and Stockton are ~25K instate, with 10-18k scholarship + state grants (TAP?) and 5.5K loans. Are they affordable?
What about Rowan - they’ve got good merit scholarships.

What does the NPC say for each of these?

So when you look at a web site with average aid they are rolling merit into ā€œinstitutional aidā€? Like it says on average Albright covers 83 percent of ā€œneedā€ He applied at Wooster and is being recruited for football but we haven’t been able to get out there with the travel restrictions.

I saw another thread, and I cannot find it now where the kid’s EFC was like 2 grand and Albright got them down to 2 grand. So I believed they could get me down to 10 or so??

For Albright, instead of guessing based on some other thread, why not go to
https://www.albright.edu/admission-aid/financial-aid/first-year-students/
and follow the link to
https://albright.studentaidcalculator.com/survey.aspx
and get an estimate directly from Albright?

Folks in the Albright forum said their calculator was way off and they got more then they expected.

So far nothing jives with the COA calculators the school puts out.

Are you sure Montclair and Stockton are still giving that merit?
Rowan reduced their merit drastically this year. According to old threads S21 should have qualified for at least 10k and only received 6k. A number of others were complaining they significantly reduced merit. So you may want to check for sure.

Hi

I think you are asking the wrong question as to which schools will close the gap.

Unless the schools in question meet 100% demonstrated need (and the school determines your demonstrated need) there will be a gap.

Since none of the schools on your list meet 100% demonstrated need, so there will most likely be a gap in your financial aid package.

My average son (3.8 WGPA 30 ACT) got $7000 from Stockton this year.

Yes, merit = institutional aid. Many NPCs do not include merit aid, so they may be inaccurate at schools that offer merit. Look at each school’s common data set, section H, to see details on FA, broken out between need based and non-need based…but remember that averages are just that, and your experience may be not be ā€˜average’.

In general, schools that don’t meet full need will give more FA to the students they really want to attend. This year, like last year, many schools may increase their aid offers late in the spring, even into the summer.

At Wooster, if football recruiting progresses, ask if they will do a financial aid pre-read which should give you a decent COA estimate.

Good luck.

Stockton always had the highest merit of NJ in state.

It probably is lower now though.

We also thought we would receive more merit from Rowan.

Merit down across the board. I doubt he will do much better at Rowan than what I am seeing from these private colleges. Ursinus had a stackable 10K scholarship he applied for, if he gets that, he will likely go there. He likes McDaniel the most but it needs to be in line with the others.
