I am applying transfer for Fall 2016.
Once I applied TAG for UCD, they kept asking me about all the English courses that I took before coming to the U.S.
I sent most of the documents (certificate, not transcript because they were literally private English institution, which are called “Academy”).
Anyway, I have had email connection with UCD or UC TAG admission (https://ugappinfo.ucop.edu/messageResponse). While the connection, I asked about my previous college in Korea. It was not actually a “college” but an institution that offered occupational training and A.A degree. Then, they immediately asked me to send the transcript there, which is printed with 1.7 GPA. (I could not even get the degree…)
Okay… Will this transcript affect to my transfer?
I think this information will be remain at UC admission so that I need to report this information when I apply for general UC transfer by NOV 30th. Am I right?
It was even 4 years ago that I attended that institution in Korea, and I have been doing so great in here U.S.A. I feel so bad if it affects to my efforts I have made, here.
Could you give me a piece of advice and answer for this, pleeeeez??! Thank you so much!!
You will not get credit from any occupational schools. Also, if you TAG’d you had to go to a CCC. Did you not take the two English courses there? That would have solved your English course problems, as well as proven English proficiency. My hunch from what you’ve said, is you will have big upcoming issues.
A few other points:
The courses must be part of a college-level academic degree program.
The international educational institution must be registered with the Ministry of Education.
The UCs will not apply credit from Korean or Japanese community colleges as they are often vocational in nature.
Technical and vocational courses, or any courses that appear to be vocational or technical, will not receive credit.
English courses taken at an institution where the language of instruction is not English are not transferable.
Whenever you apply for admission to a degree program at an accredited college or university in the US, you are obligated to provide official copies of all of your academic records from every post-high school program you have attended anywhere in the world. It doesn’t matter how old those records are, or where you took the classes.
The college/university that you apply to will decide which credits transfer (if any), and as what. You just have to get the transcripts sent to them.
The older your grades are, the less they will matter. So don’t worry about that 1.7. Get a meeting with the Transfer Advisor at your CC, and find out what else might be missing in your application, and whether or not there are classes you still need to take before transferring.
@lindyk8 The reason they asked mea about English courses from outside was because I reported about it on TAG application (I wrote I studied English in Philippines and Australia). Thank you for giving me such good information!!
@happymomof1 Yes, they seem to ask everything haha Thank you for your advice! I will definitely just focus on application!
