Does anyone have any information on the average GPA for graduating UC and CSU college students? (I mean students that have completed all college course work and are graduating from college, and not high school students who are entering college)
I saw on www(dot)gradeinflation(dot)com has some old info that states in 2014, the average GPA for a student at CSU-Sacramento was a 2.95, but the average GPA for a student at UCLA in 2015 was 3.27
My D is hoping to go to Veterinary school after college, and everyone says you need a 3.7, so she may want to avoid schools that grade too harshly.
You cannot just go by the average college GPA for graduating Seniors since it can not only be campus dependent but major dependent. STEM majors in general have lower overall college GPA’s than many other non-STEM majors.
Your D might be better off seeing where her admissions stats place her in comparison to the admitted Freshman students in her class along with the historic Freshman profile for that college.
Being above the 75th percentile in HS GPA and test scores at any college campus could make her a big fish in a small pond so she would have a better chance of obtaining a higher GPA due to less competitive classmates.
Sac state’s average admitted Freshman GPA for 2019 was 3.3 vs. UCLA which was a 4.25. Different caliber of students at these schools so the comparison above is not meaningful.
You can also check some Vet school’s statistical data to see which schools have a good admission rate.
For UC Davis Vet school, the majority of admitted students are from UC Davis followed by Cal Poly SLO, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara. There are a few other CSU’s on the list.
You can look at each specific college website for their previous years Freshman profile if available. Also the common dataset sections C9-12. Some schools would also have Analytic studies and Institutional Research data (use google) that can give you some specific admission data.
