As the title says, I’m thinking of getting a Kindle, specifically the Paperwhite since I did some research and it seems to be the best one of all the Kindles. I thought of getting a tablet such as iPad or a Samsung Galaxy. But I’m only going to be using it for reading as I still prefer to do everything on a computer.
For those of you who have a Kindle, what’s your opinion, is it good or bad? worth the money to spend?
I love to read and I think it would be more convenient to have a reader than bringing a book everywhere I go
I have a paper white, that I like although I also have an iPad & iPhone.
I like to have something dedicated to reading.
If you buy one today, they are only $99, as opposed to $129 or thereabouts.
Only problem with kindle.
You can’t find it by looking on the Internet as with find myiphone.
I recommend the Fintie cases sold on Amazon.
Very inexpensive but well made.
I love my Kindle paperwhite. Battery lasts a very long time and I can read it anywhere from lights out dark to bright sunlight. It is small enough to fit easily in my bag.
Nothing but LOVE for my paperwhite. It’s a game changer for me. It allows me to read comfortably for hours at a time, something I had pretty much stopped doing due to vision issues.
I have a Kindle HD and have been pleased with it. Love, absolutely love, it for reading. Occasionally use it for the internet when I’m away from home. Use it around the house for Sirius XM radio.
Only complaint? Even though it runs Google apps, you can’t download Google apps from Google. However, most of them can be downloaded elsewhere.
I have a Kindle but I hardly ever use it any more. I use the Kindle App on my phone and on my iPad all the time. I know it sounds weird to read on a phone but I’ve gotten used to it and it works very well for me. The small screen actually makes it very easy to keep track of your place. The actual Kindle feels dreary to me, which is why I stopped using it.
I also am in love with my Kindle Paperwhite. I even bought my mother in law one for Christmas. Mine and hers is wifi only. Love being able to read in the dark.
I use the kindle app on my Surface. That way, I dont have to carry another gadget with me. Mr. B tried his Kindle and discovered that he liked real paper too much to switch. Ymmv.
As I have said before, Kindle Paperwhite changed my life. Even though I always loved school and grew up in a family really passionate about reading, I was never really a reader - just didn’t enjoy it outside of a few books. For some reason, being able to read on a Kindle made all the difference for me, and in my 20’s, after getting the Paperwhite, I became a reader! I now read pretty much every day and read 45 books in my first year of owning the Paperwhite. I don’t care at all for reading on tablets or computers or phone apps, even though I have all those devices.
I am a huge fan of gadgets, and an early technology adopter, but the Kindle remains my favorite gadget. I now have the Kindle Voyage and absolutely love it! I don’t live home without my Kindle and have a special compartment for it in my tiny purse.
Yes, yes YES! to getting a Kindle (or dedicated e-reader).
I have a basic (not Paperwhite) Kindle and also a Kindle Fire. I play games and do internet searches on the Fire but
prefer the basic Kindle for reading. I use it every day. I don’t think I could eat breakfast without my Kindle!
I will repeat what everyone else has said before - I love my Kindle Paperwhite! I do a lot of reading before bed, and on nights when hubby wants the light off, I can still comfortably read in the dark with the backlight on, as it is not bright at all like the screen of an iPad might look like.
Thank you for all your responses! I think I’m going to get one. Another question is: It appears that there’s a version with ad that’s cheaper than ones without…does the ads affect the reading experience at all or is it very minimal?
The ads are just at the start up screen when you turn on the tablet If you pay extra to get them removed, you get wallpaper type photos. If not, you get ads, They go away as soon as you click to actually start doing something. Absolutely no impact on reading at all.
I am an original Kindle owner, which is now dead. Bought a refurbished Fire so I could also watch movies while waiting for D at basketball practice, decided I needed something I could read on at the beach and bought a refurbished paperwhite. I love them all. Look at the refurbished stuff, great deal, same warranty and looks new.
I have a Kindle fire and a paperwhite. Started off with the paperwhite because I wanted something small and light just for reading. Got the fire when my old netbook pooped out and I wanted a reasonable price tablet. Find I use the Fire more at home - typing this on it right believe the paperboard when travelling - can load a few books and not have the weight in my carry on.
Another very happy kindle paperwhite customer. I have a kindle keyboard and loved it but coveted the paperwhite so bought a refurbished one. I love my kindle. Both the kids have one, the H has the HD. He’s not much of a reader but likes it to play games on and surf the internet.
I have an older, basic kindle and LOVE it. Unlike a tablet or phone, a battery charge can last for weeks. I travel w a tablet and a kindle. A kindle is much lighter than a tablet, and has more of a book-like experience.
