DH would like to run the LA Marathon in late March, dependent on the Covid situation. Last June I made reservations at 3 hotels.
1st hotel is within 5 blocks of the starting point so he can just walk over.
2nd night is at the Intercontinental on Avenue of the Stars. He can just walk over after the race.
3rd and 4th is in Santa Monica
Intercontinental just sent an email cancelling our reservations stating they will be closed through the end of March due to Covid. Like I said, going there is fluid, but I want to have reservations nonetheless. What other hotels are there that he could walk to? I see Century Plaza on a map, but that’s it. I’m not familiar with the area, so don’t know what streets are walkable vs. bigger Highway like, so can’t. Thank for your help.
I have no idea where this race starts. But I went to a convention in LA and stayed at the Westin. It was a long walk to the convention center but doable. It was nice because it was a lot quieter than the hustle bustle of the convention area (15,000 were at the convention)
@conmama - I know the area fairly well. The Intercontinental is nearly 3 miles to the starting point, was that something your H was realizing? Personally I’d be looking in Chinatown for something close enough to get to by foot (Best Western Dragon Gate, Royal Pagoda). Or the Super 8 on Sunset - but nothing in that area will be lux. (I consider the Intercontinental lux)
It looks like there are a couple of hotels not too far away from Avenue of the Stars on Olympic Blvd., a Courtyard by Marriott and the Century Park Hotel. As you noted the Century Plaza is the only other hotel on the Avenue of the Stars. Just over a mile away there are some more hotels in Beverly Hills. All of the streets around there are walkable, though some, like Olympic, Santa Monica and Pico are busier, four-lane streets.
@JustaMom m thank you I appreciate you taking the time to point out the starting point, but DH already knew and we made reservations for the night before at Super 8 so he could just walk over.
I was going to leave before the race began and take my stuff to the Intercontinental and drop it off. After the race was finished he could just walk over.
I’ve made reservations for Courtyard Marriott and Century Park and can decide which one before we go.
I honestly think it will be cancelled. DH has an email out to the organizers telling them hotels are closing. Thanks all.
Just saw rates to Century Plaza…yeah, I think I’ll pass!
Just jumping in with a completely unrelated comment that dh I were married 33 years ago near the Century Plaza Hotel and that’s where we spent our wedding night! Good luck finding just the right hotel, @conmama. Agree it’s better to have one just in case the marathon is able to happen.
