Any magical remedies for flyaway staticy hair?

Woke up this morning, wash my face a bit and my hair flies out in all directions. There’s dry shampoo around so I try some but it doesn’t really help (I had washed my hair the night before). I find some hair gel and smooth it on, which just makes parts of it look crispy. I’m thinking of going full Edward Scissorhands to keep things in control!

In a pinch, if I use moisturizer on my hands, I can smooth them on my hair while they’re still damp. But that just feels wrong. Today I tried a heavier feeling conditioner and we’ll see how it goes (hair is still damp now).

Any fabulous sprays or gels that control the static flyaway craziness without looking or feeling too heavy? There’s something about static hair that just bugs me, like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I wash my hair in the morning and towel-dry it then do a final “style” (just straighten it) just before I leave for work. I don’t use hair dryer.

Have you tried argan oil?

I haven’t tried argan oil. I’ll have to get some!

My stylist recommends dryer sheets for static hair. I spray static guard on a brush and then run the brush through my hair. Whoever can invent an antistatic shampoo will have a winning product.

Argan oil usually isn’t actually argan oil, but try any dimethicone or cyclomethicone type spray or product. Cheap is fine, no need to pay, just look for a 'cone.

Orlando Pita Argan Oil from Costco is what I use for the tips of my hair on dry days.

I bought my argan oil in Morocco. I use it in dry weather or before I use a flat iron on my hair.

The static sheets work. I wrap my brush in a static sheet and keep one in my purse. I just pat my hair with the static sheet if any strays start traveling upward. The sheets are lifesavers when trying on clothes and putting things on and off over your head.

I swear by Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. It heads off the issue from the start. Not cheap, try the small bottle first. For me, argan is too heavy.

I recently started using Tresemme Keratin shampoo. I find it does a great job with flyaway ends.

I had a similar issue. I switched to a hair cleanser vs a shampoo and the issue went away. I have no idea why but it seems to work. The cleansers don’t lather and don’t have sulfates.

I use a spray-on leave-in conditioner (John Freida Frizz-Ease), usually a few spritzes in the morning and I smooth it in with wet hands. The consistency of this particular conditioner is like water, so it’s much lighter than cream-based leave-in conditioners you apply to wet hair. And you just use as little or as much as you need as you see it going on. Very cheap too, available pretty much anywhere including drugstores.

A edna makes some nice products to keep hair “calm” as it were.

I noticed my hair getting staticky with the colder weather/heat. I’ve been using “It’s a 10” - I have the light version. After I towel dry my hair, I spray two pumps in my palm, rub my hands together, then work it through my damp hair before I blow it dry. It’s taken care of the fly-aways.

Another vote for “It’s a 10”. That stuff is magic… makes my hair less tangle-prone, shinier, and controls the fly-aways.

Pravana Nevo Intense Therapy Leave-in Treatment is good for all hair types. Always use a heat protection spray before blow drying. I like Alterna Caviar Repair Multi-Vitamin Heat Protection Spray.

I have also been using Its a 10. I got some with and some without keratin. I’ve only used the without so far.
Perfect Hair Day Products are another line I would recommend, but I can’t speak to whether they help with static.

Argh. That should say Aveda.

Not washing too often is a good solution. Hair needs oil to weigh it down a bit.
