I am looking to join mock trial at PSU when I go there in a few years. Is anyone on CC a mock trial member there and could tell me a little about the program?

Sure! Though I’m not entirely sure what you’re specifically interested in, so I’ll throw it out spreader style. PSU Mock Trial is actually the largest student run mock trial organization in the country. We are pretty much self-coached and self-governed in all respects so there is a lot of reliance on our members to keep everything going smoothly. I would say time commitment varies by the person.

The year is really separated into 4 distinct parts. First, everyone will be randomly separated into intermural fall teams captained by one or two experienced members. Here, you’ll get your first crack at learning the case and participating in trials with guidance from our Mock Trial Academy Coordinator who will give periodic seminars on various mock-y topics as well as your captain.

Next, you’ll sign up for invitational teams which will again be captained by one or two experienced members with the goal of competing in said invitational (usually 4 trials over a weekend). This stage will involve more depth as far as learning the case and time commitment.

After the above two stages, the mock trial leadership also known as the ‘Big 3’ (the President, Executive Vice President, and Administrative Vice President) will look at the data to selected Stacked Invitational Teams to be followed by the 4 teams to compete at Regionals.

^is actually a lot easier than it sounds trust me.
