Any NCIS fans? Question about an episode from season 1 . . .

I just started watching this series (D passed along the DVDs). Last night I watched the episode in which the doctor and her daughter killed the two Marines to collect the insurance money. I must have missed something somewhere because I don’t undertand why the first Marine was killed two years before the second. What did the second Marine do during those two years?

Do you know the name of the episode and which episode number of season one it is?

Is this the episode that starts out with the leg in a West Virginia dumpster?

The name of the episode is “My other Left Foot.” I am guessing it is episode number 12; it’s the fourth episode on disc 3, and discs 1 and 2 each have 4 episodes.

And it is the episode that starts out with the leg found in the dumpster in W.Va.

could it just be that that is when the opportunity presents itself?

this is the episode where at the end Tony hears someone upstairs and they go find the mom/daughter (i forget which one was upstairs)?

NCIS is a superb series… IMO.

Don’t know exactly which episode you are referring to, but I just wanted to weigh in that I also think that NCIS is terrific. And I don’t really like its recent spinoff-- NCIS in LA. Glad to know I’m not alone! :)

I didn’t see the episode, but I did read a recap of it on the internet–so, of course, now I am an expert. :)

[1.12 - My Other Left Foot - NCIS](http://cbsncis.wetpaint.com/page/1.12+-+My+Other+Left+Foot)

There was a conspiracy two years ago–co-conspirators were Dorn, Dr. Chalmers, and Melissa. Dorn had a life insurance policy on him that would pay out $750K to Melissa upon Dorn’s death. They faked Dorn’s death and Melissa collected the money.

How the death was faked: Dorn, Corporal Morgan (a Marine friend of Dorn’s) and Melissa were housemates “with privileges” with each other. Corporal Morgan was probably killed with digitalis given to him by Dr. Chalmers which gave him the heart attack that he suffered in her office. Melissa identified herself as Dorn’s “half-sister” and identified the body of Morgan as that of Dorn. Dr. Chalmers was also the coroner and made sure that an autopsy was not performed. Melissa collected on the $750K (sharing it with Dorn and Dr. Chalmers) and had the body of Morgan cremated.

Two years later, there must have been some sort of falling out between Dorn and Dr. Chalmers. I can’t tell from the recap what was the genesis of the falling out. But we find out that the leg has a lethally high concentration of digitalis in it. That points to Dr. Chalmers having killed Dorn in the same way that she killed Corporal Morgan.

The seed from the sycamore tree found in Dorn’s sock came from the sycamore tree in front of Melissa’s house. Upon searching Melissa’s barn, they find the place where Dorn’s body was dismembered.

So in answer to your question: Corporal Morgan was murdered 2 years ago and mis-identified as Dorn so that Dorn and cronies could collect on the insurance money. In the ensuing 2 years, Dorn and cronies spend the insurance money. After 2 years, there is some falling out and the real Dorn is murdered by one of his cronies.

One question that wasn’t addressed by the recap–there was a fingerprint found on the leg found in the dumpster. Who’s fingerprint was it? Was Melissa in on killing Dorn, dismembering Dorn or none of it?

I have now watched the episode on Youtube.

Fingerprint on Dorn’s leg never identified, although Gibbs took Melissa’s fingerprints by getting her to drink a glass of water and is going to get Abby to check it against the print on the leg. According to Melissa, Dr. Chalmers killed Dorn, chopped him up and dropped pieces of him all over the place. Melissa is willing to give Mama up because she really did love Dorn and Mama had gone too far in killing him.

One thing–it looks like what Gibbs told Dr. Chalmers about different batches of digitalis having a chemical marker so that it can be traced to stock belonging to Dr. Chalmers was a lie.

One more thing that puzzled me, but I think I know the answer now. How did Tony know that someone else was in the house? He smelled the Estee Lauder perfume of Dr. Chalmers when he entered the house.

Unanswered is why Dr. Chalmers decided that Dorn had to die now and where had he been the last two years. Living with Melissa? The toilet seat was up. Or was he just visiting? Did she kill him to cover her tracks? Do you have any clues?

Is it possible that Dorn was not involved in the insurance fraud, but that just Melissa and Mama were involved? When Dorn stops by to visit Melissa after 2 years (see the up toilet seat evidence), Mama realizes that she is in a very dangerous position. Dorn cannot be seen alive by anyone or the jig is up. So he is killed and scattered.

What militates against that is that Dorn did take out the life insurance policy and that he was a coke addict–he would have wanted the money. If he did leave town with his share of the money, perhaps he is now returning because he’s run out and plans to hit Mama and Melissa up for more.

I wish why Dorn had to die now was explained. I’d be interested in your theories…

NCIS is a show I watch with DS2 and we both really enjoy it.

Here’s some trivia for you.

 1. McGee is actually Bellisarius’s step son.
 2. In later episodes Abby’s assistant Chip, is also his son in real life
 3. There is a character that has been in every Bellisarius show including Quantum Leap and JAG. In the NCIS episode he plays a commander who steals secrets. In JAG he played the 1st yr as the jerk Executive Officer to the Commander. He also is in the end as the guy who sets up Harm.

Abby is my favorite character of all of them. I just wonder if her tatoos are real or fake.

Has the actress who plays Abby been seen at the Emmys? You wouldn’t be able to cover up those tattoos in the kinds of dresses actresses wear to those kinds of shows.

There is some info here on Abby’s tatoos:

[Abby Sciuto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Abby Sciuto - Wikipedia)

D and I both love NCIS-- nice to see we’re not alone! (I don’t know that episode though.)

Holy cow–the actress playing Abby is 41!!!

It’s those tattoos… maybe we should go get some  My favorite Abby moment is in season 4 (or maybe 3?) when she dresses up like Marilyn Monroe for Halloween.
