Its not exactly prestigious but its only $4,000 per semester when Columbia is $55,000 and plus its not hard to get into. You wont end up at a big law firm from a CUNY but you could get into local political issues which is more exciting and rewarding anyway. Opinions?

Plus I like that with all West Point’s rules and restrictions CUNY Queens ranked higher on “stone cold sober” anti-party school rankings. Tough Stoic Spartans with not time for distractions.

I would be careful if you wanted a job after graduation. From what I hear, CUNY has a lousy reputation. On the other hand, if your plan is to hang a shingle the day after you are sworn in to the bar, I suppose it might be ok.

if you can get into columbia, i would think that you would have other less costly options other than cuny – ie that you could get merit aid at a school somewhere between the two.

I am really not that familiar with CUNY Law or the SUNY Buffalo Law program. But if you are from NYS and MONEY is a major factor, I suggest you also check out U of Buffalo Law School (SUNY).
I believe it is supposed to be a pretty decent program and I think it has a semester Internship program with NYC firms.
I am too lazy to check out the specifics of the program for you- but I think it may be worth your while to check it out.

Just my opinion but–
if you are a top student and have the ability to get into Columbia, it may be hard to pass that opportunity down. In the long run, you may be better off financially to be a Columbia Law school grad than CUNY or SUNY. But if you are checking out Hofstra, Pace and other schools of that caliber, it may be wise to also check out the CUNY and SUNY Law schools.
