My husband is a bit concerned. His lungs feel “weird” No fever or other symptoms though. The good news is that he’s in superb physical shape (up to recently a competitive squash player.) The bad news is that he’s 65 and has always been susceptible to winter-long coughing. We live in a very dry climate, he also blames decades of playing tennis in smoggy 60s and 70s Southern California for weakening his lungs.
So - either this is his usual… or a bug of some sort… or the virus. Psychosomatic is also a possibility, lol.
We also had all the symptoms in late January/early February. It was right after coming back from an international conference in FL. H went to urgent care and tested negative for the flu. The doc said it was “just” a virus. We both felt pretty lousy for a solid week but then slowly recovered.
Now we have our usual seasonal allergies. H blew his nose while we were out walking last week and someone looked at him funny and I loudly said “allergies!”
I had a sore throat that started last Sat. I had a slight cough due to throat irritation. One day, I also had a headache. No fever, as far as I could tell - I didn’t take my temp.
Was this mild CV? Who knows since I never experienced shortness of breath. As of yesterday, symptoms are gone.
Ummm…yeah. I think a lot of people feel that way I havent caught a cold or such in years But last year when I took this seasonal job, I started getting a rasp in my voice. a very slight cough. And so fortunately, I went to an ENT to rule out anything serious when things persisted for a few weeks. Turns out it’s from forced air heat here, Resolves when I’m out of the house or office. When back in NY, I’m perfectly fine; voice back to normal.
Thankfully, I keep a journal and can look back to the previous year Because, here we go again. Dry cough is enough to get me checking my temperature everyday. I imagine that I’m short of breath too
If they sold reliable COVID19 tests and they were available, they’d be getting a lot of my money Not usually a hypochondriac, but This has turned me into one, I hope, for this virus.
I have a kind of tickly feeling in my upper airways that makes me cough occasionally. Feel perfectly fine otherwise. It’s likely the pollen, but stuff like this works on your imagination, so I totally get it.
Thing is, little colds and other viruses are ALWAYS present, so it confuses things at times like these. Hence the majority of COVID tests that are actually negative.
Okay so end of the day report…I feel…well, I don’t feel worse…i just feel odd…still out of sorts but still no fever or any symptoms. The paranoia is high in me now…I hope you all continue to soldier on as well. Thank you, my friends.
I haven’t had a fever in so long, I’m not sure if I’d know. I honestly haven’t even thought about it. Now I if I feel chilled or heated in the least, I’m very conscious of it. I just feel better (slightly ) taking my temp. Though I’m
wondering if the thermometer is working properly. It’s saying my temp is about 97 degrees. Even when I’m feeling warm. If I could easily find another thermometer , I d buy it. Maybe a couple more. A little paranoid here…yes.
When I did my pre-“quarantine” shopping I remembered our mild seasonal allergies and bought a bottle of Claritin. If you think your symptoms may be due to allergies, you might want to get it if you do make a shopping foray out.
I was relieved to find that my little bit of headache and scratchy throat went away within a few minutes of taking it. I don’t take it every day, as my symptoms are mild, but it helps reassure me that I can probably rule out COVID-19 for the moment.
I shared this on one of the other COVID-19 forums, and I’m sharing it here, too.
The American Academy of Otolaryngology posted information on its website saying that mounting anecdotal evidence indicates that lost or reduced sense of smell and loss of taste are significant symptoms associated with Covid-19.
@SouthernHope I always think things seem and FEEL worse at the end of the day and when it gets dark. For some reason the nighttime heightens fear or concern for me. Hoping morning brings light to you in more than one way.
Someone asked if we can tell if we have fever. I definitely can. Sometimes I feel chilled. My cheeks “sting” and my eyes burn. And sometimes my head “swims” like if I turn my head to look at something, I get mildly dizzy for a second. I will then use the thermometer and I am never wrong either.
I am the same, musicmoom1215 When I get a fever, I get chilled and a headache. I don’t almost ever get headaches otherwise.
I tried that symptom tracker to see how it would rate the symptoms I had when I got sick almost a month ago and it said my symptoms were consistent with those of Covid 19 and I should stay away from people for 14 days and call 911 only if I had trouble breathing or something like that. I think if I had gotten the same thing a week or certainly 2 weeks later, they would have thought it possible. 3 weeks later and they would have thought it likely. I think it is possible that I had it. I remember feeling that all food and even water tasted strange and bad. I don’t know if my sense of smell was impacted or not. I hope that if I did have it, I didn’t spread it to anyone else. I stayed home 1 1/2 weeks and even when I went to work, I stayed away from others and stood far back from my students, was fastidious about not touching my face, using hand sanitizer, washing my hands, etc. I ate in my room alone. I kept spraying down the desks and the door handle and light switch, etc with disinfectant. At home I did the same and washed my towels, etc with bleach separately from my family’s things.
I hope no one here has it and that if you do, you get a light case of it and recover fully and quickly.
I got scared this morning. My chest has been a little tight for a few days and today I had muscle aches and a headache. I took some Claritin and a hot shower. Usually it is harder when it gets dark, as someone else said, but this morning I wondered…the CDC link was very helpful! I have been walking a lot and probably have muscle aches from that
I doubt that there is any way to know what caused this other than to wait and see how it goes.
If this happened to me, I would drink plenty of fluids, and make sure to get a lot of rest. I would also stay home and try very hard to make sure that no one else got infected – including encouraging my wife to keep her distance.
I did find myself with a cough a few days ago and did worry about it. This occurred just after I had come home from a bike ride (on a wide trail with very few other people). It occurred to me that a year ago at this time I also got a cough right when the trees started sending out pollen in the early spring. Not everything is coronavirus.
The flu is also active right now. The CDC has a map of activity, but it is pretty close to just “widespread everywhere in the US)”:
Definitely! My husband was tested 2 days ago as he has a couple of employees in the hospital who are positive, and he had contact with them in the past 2 weeks. We won’t have his results for another couple of days. We have 3 teens at home and all 5 of us keep worrying we might be having symptoms, but nothing serious yet. We’re doing a lot of temperature taking and are in complete isolation until we get the results.
I have been taking my temp twice a day recently, so I guess I am paranoid. Have a lot of allergy symptoms, so I won’t let myself think “virus” until I have a fever and/or lose my sense of smell. As long as I can smell it, I’m still OK!!! LOL! Some days I feel generally cruddy, and then I go for a run and feel much better afterwards.
