I can always tell if I have a fever by my “eye test.” If I feel look to the side and the eyes feel achy, yup, I have a fever.
I’ve felt off for a while, but I think it’s mostly not sleeping well. Right now my chest hurts, but it feels exactly the same after I over extended on a cobra pose years ago, so I’m guessing it’s the same thing. Annoying.
I am basically a bumble bee these days - walking around sniffing everything ensuring I can still smell! I also felt “off” yesterday so I did take my temperature (normal) then went for a walk to clear my head. It worked.
Most of my friends and family report having at least one daily moment thinking “Do I feel sick? Is that a cough? Can I smell?” Annoying is right.
I never get sick, and I mean never. I do not think I have ever had the flu. Never had a flu shot in my life (I am in my early 50s). I can count on one hand the number of blood tests I have had in the last 20 years. I have not taken an antibiotic for an infection in at least 30 years.
Earlier in the week I had a scratchy throat for maybe a day or two. Feel totally fine now. With all the hysteria around COVID I can’t help but wonder if I had it…
@OneMoreToGo2021 If you are at all serious, I hope you do some social distancing. Would not be great to spread it all around your area and cause someone older or not to get it.
Loose stool for two days and today crampy and nausea. Half the cases have these symptoms first so got nervous. We’ll all have to suffer some kind of worry when we don’t feel well. I also think that sheltering in place has meant changes to my diet that are pretty destabilizing for my GI system.
Every time I have a hot flash I wonder if it’s really a fever. Yes, the thermometer has come out more than once. So far, so good.
@compmom - yikes. Norovirus?! Happens all the time in assisted living facilities. You have been visiting your mom until lately…
I didn’t got near my mom or touch anything of hers. There IS a norovirus in her facility.
So I had loose stools all weekend and yesterday added some pain and nausea but no vomiting. Today I have a headache and achy, and abdominal pain is bad enough that I contacted my MD.
I would have contacted MD regardless of virus situation.
I keep reading that GI symptoms like this are a first sign for almost half of patients but they don’t access help for an average of 7 days, when breathing issues set in.
The criteria for testing do not include GI symptoms as yet.
I am not saying I have it but theoretically, people should be able to access tests early, perhaps during the GI phase. Maybe certain med trials could then be done with that population- trying to head it off early.
There is nothing I can do. They suggested a Tums. Pain is not comfortable but anxiety may be worse!Just watching a lot of Netflix, using heating pad and hoping for what would be most expected, a natural end to tummy pain.
@compmom rice has helped me with loose stools in the past. Hope you feel better soon!
@compmom Sending good, healthy vibes your way!
I think that even if GI issues are often tied to Covid 19 – there are so many OTHER things that can cause GI issues that it does not trigger testing, given scarce testing resources. As far as I know, no one with Covid is dying of the GI issues – it is the respiratory issues that require hospitalization and intervention. The main reason to test in response to GI issues would be containment – so that the person is quarantined – but in any area already subject to stay-at-home orders, then that would not generally be needed. Good article here: https://www.livescience.com/coronavirus-diarrhea-symptoms.html
I have read articles suggesting that ideally GI issues would trigger testing. The issue isn’t appropriateness of testing at that point, but the need right now to prioritize testing due to lack of supply for testing. GI issues generally mean more severe illness (according to what I have read) so could be heads up. Medications could also be given at that point.
Screenings are not asking about GI symptoms but it has been suggested that the be added because in China, almost half of all patients exhibited those first.
I was not implying at all that I should receive a test, given the need to prioritize testing right now for health care workers and those who are very ill. I was just raising the issue.
The ideal is to increase testing so that there is more information out there about what symptoms do indicate positivity, what the actual infection numbers/ statistics, and also to protect household members. I am being careful with my daughter anyway. I think GI symptoms will eventually be included in the criteria.
I am getting off a long term cancer med and that may explain some of my symptoms, as would changes in diet. Yesterday the pain was bad but today I am much better. Sticking to white rice.
Glad you are feeling somewhat better, @compmom.
I have been told by Dr. that late afternoon, early evening is more accurate
I am one of those people who never gets sick. On Feb 29, I went to DC to visit my son at school and we went to the Smithsonian for a few hours.
About a week later, I had a busy day cleaning the house and running errands. That evening, I felt absolutely exhausted but chalked it up to a lot of activity. The next day, Monday March 9 I had to go to jury duty. As I sat in the courtroom I was feeling achy and my throat started to hurt but I figured it was just hours without food or water and sitting on a hard wooden bench all day. Came home, went out for a short jog, and when I got home felt like I got hit by a truck. Went to bed at 730pm and had chills and a fever that night.
Next day I called my dr and they said come in “to be evaluated.” Did not ask me if I’d left the area (we are sort of rural) or even bring up coronavirus. Said even though I’d had a flu shot it was probably the flu “or some other virus.”
Cough started that day too. Had a fever of 101 for 3 days, usually around dinnertime. Generally just felt exhausted, napped and slept a lot, sore throat and cough. The sore throat was such that my trachea hurt to the touch which I had never experienced before. Some nausea. My energy level improved about 10-12 days in to where I could get a little exercise without coughing fits.
Now, April 1–still coughing occasionally. Last night was the first nights sleep I got since this started that I didn’t take any cough medicine.
So did I have it? Maybe. I did not quarantine within my home though I did try to maintain physical distance with family members. While my H and one of my sons felt a little under the weather for a day or two, no one got sick like me. And while my cough was very bad at times and definitely annoying, I never really felt short of breath or like it was in my lungs.
It was the sickest I’ve been in years, whatever it was.
My son never got sick either and he got sick in Jan, then he gave it to me and my husband. By first week of Feb we were fine. All of us had mild symptom. And I never had a fever or dry cough, very little cough due to nasal drip, very loose cough. But my husband was convinced that we all had the virus. I think it was his wishful thinking that we should be safe going forward.
Well, i was convinced that my neighbors had it, but their tests came back (after 11 days!) negative. She, especially, had all the symptoms, and it just dragged on.
I have been walking my dog before sun up, and this morning my chest definitely felt pressure, but I have had asthma in the past so maybe it was just the morning chill in the air. We have been really good with sheltering in place for three weeks today so I would be surprised to get it. I am about to go out for my weekly produce run and will wear a mask dh found in the garage and take my own wipes.
Checking in to see how you are doing today, @compmom?
Aww, thanks @doschicos. On the road. Lots of rice! I do think that getting of those cancer meds might be part of this.
Different thread but again want to thank you for everything you do on the main coronavirus thread
