I am currently finalizing my applications and list of schools I am applying to. I have had a few come on and off the list based on realistic chances of getting in and schools that I have no intention of going to. I am looking mainly in the midwest, east and southeast. I have some safeties and definite reaches.
Here is my list:
Miami of Ohio
University of Dayton
Wake Forest
University of Illinois
Washington and Lee
Boston College
Davidson
Boston University
Villanova
Santa Clara University
Schools I am considering adding: Colgate, Northeastern, William and Mary
I initially thought I wanted a school with a size of 5000-10,000 undergraduates, but I have visited some of the smaller LA schools on my list and really liked them.
In the case of liberal arts colleges, students who might be the best fits for them will often, beyond their particular majors, have an inclination to pursue electives in fields such as classics, philosophy, religious studies, government, literature, history, geosciences and astronomy. Education courses and journalism experience – often as an EC in the latter instance – can complement the student experience at LACs, but more as preludes to possible careers than as highly defined academic avenues. Should you find this nature of academic exploration appealing, LACs may suit you well.
