Any Philosophy Majors at UCSD?

I just finished my finals at my Community College and I finished strong. I am fairly confident that I can get into UCSD with my GPA and TAG. I'm getting really excited so I just want to know what I can expect. (I googled philosophy and UCSD ... only things that really pop up is the philosophy department website; there's really no input that I found from students regarding the philosophy program at UCSD.)

I know philosophy majors are probably very very rare at a science oriented university like UCSD, but I am curious to know for those people that are taking philosophy classes or that are philosophy majors at UCSD: How is it? Do you regret being a philosophy major at UCSD? How are the professors? Are the classes very intense?

My last question... Is there a TA for your philosophy classes?

I know that I will probably get none or a few responses because many of you at UCSD are probably science majors, but if you know a friend that is a philosophy major at UCSD, I will appreciate it if you can share their experiences with me/CC.

My roommate is a philosophy grad student and he is a TA, so yes there are TA's classes. That is unfortunately all I can answer since I don't know much about the undergraduate program.

Ahh thanks for the answer! But I guess my assumption was correct that it would be very rare for a philosophy major to be at ucsd ><. Which is strange cause UCSD philosophy ranking is actually not bad.

bump ^10char

It's cool to know someone is in the same boat as me. I'm planning on double majoring in philosophy and poli sci....transferring from a community college in the central valley. I am doing TAG too so I'm basically in...

I'm planning on living at the Village for my junior year...anyways, really cool to meet someone else tranferring to ucsd as a phil major.

Cool! I also planned on living in the village for my junior year! What college did you rank 1st? I ranked ERC hahah xD, nice to know that there is another philosophy major transfer ^^.

I ranked Muir first as I had heard it was the college best suited for a double major as their are less college reqs. Btw, ERC does not accept the IGETC( along with Revelle) making it much harder to get into as a transfer than others. If I were you I'd plan on your second choice. I choose ERC as my second choice hoping it would force them to put me into Muir lol.

Ohhh I read posts regarding that. Turns out ERC is more lenient to transfers who complete IGETC, and you only have to take one or two more classes than the other colleges if you did complete IGETC, which I'm okay with. I ranked Muir as my 2nd though, but I will most likely get into ERC since people rarely rank that as their #1 choice hahah.

Ah, still no feedback from UCSD philosophy students. Oh well, if I get into UCSD, I will give my input for future references hahah.

Oh nice dude, I didn't know that. That's sweet then.
Although it is probably irrelevant considering we will both be living in the Village, ERC supposedly has the hottest and most women so kudos to you.

Reviving my old thread !

I got accepted as a philosophy major to ERC (as planned kekeke) ! I hope any philosophy major transfer or freshmen post here and what UCSD school they got into !

Believe it or not, there are a good number of people at UCSD who want to go to law school, and philosophy is a fairly popular choice for GE's, so quite a few people are taking philosophy classes. From the extremely limited pool of people I have asked, the classes are pretty good and pretty challenging.

I'm going to UCSD as a Phil major, planning to go on to grad school. SD has a very good Phil program particularly for those interested in philosophy of science or philosophy of mind, though it is all around a good program. If you're serious about philosophy then you would probably like the program a lot.

I got accepted to ucsd has a phil major (ERC haha) and am excited but am having trouble deciding between ucla and cal as well...

I am planning to apply to UCSD as a philosophy major this November. How is the work load and difficulty of classes? I am a community college student currently.

Well I'll be starting at UCSD next month as a Phil major. The department is very good but over shadowed by the Sciences.
I will be at Muir and living in the Village so any other Phil majors let me know maybe we can study together.
