Any projects I can do?(specifically petroleum engineering)

I want to learn more about the industry and be able to learn some stuff. I found a really small, for kids, project wondering if I should even bother: [Rocky Secrets: Where Does Oil Hide?](<a href=“Rocky Secrets: Where Does Oil Hide? | Science Project”>Rocky Secrets: Where Does Oil Hide? | Science Project)

But what can I do project wise? Anything?

I am also interested in a project I could take on for petroleum engineering as well, and I’m a ME student.

Anyone got any suggestions?

What about ask some professors at your school about their opinions on this matter? They may actually give you a good direction.

Start looking at data from regulatory agency websites (Colorado Oil and Gas Commission, Texas Railroad Commission etc.) You could map production geographically, look for correlations or just identify trends.

If you wanted something much more complex, you could create reservoir simulators (using excel, Matlab or commercial software like Eclipse) and history match the model to current results.

Noleguy, what can I do to get started? How do I begin these? I hardly know much about reservoir engineering or related things, but definitely want to learn.
