Any Questions about UCSD?

@JeSuis

Which professor was it?

Michelsen. Idk, he had everyone discuss this refrigerator problem for like a minute and was forcing people to get into groups. Had I been in the lecture, I would have been rolling my eyes.

^Oh ok. I haven’t had him before. If you want to **** your pants laughing, listen to a PSYC 1 lecture with Professor Anstis. His accent is amazing and he’s totally hilarious. It’s almost like listening to stand up comedy while learning.

Haha, will do at some point.

How do number of credits work for signing up with classes? You sign up for classes before the current quarter ends, correct? So, do they just assume you pass all of your classes, or do you not get to count the classes you’re currently taking?

How is economics at UCSD?

@JeSuis

They don’t count the classes you’re taking that quarter.

Oh, okay. Would it be a good idea to try to get some units at a community college this Summer? I plan to come in with 28 units; will that put me ahead of enough Freshman to get me a good enrollment time Winter Quarter?

How’s UCSD’s Computer Science compare with UCI’s?

@JeSuis - yeah, it’s a great idea (if you want to spend your last summer of freedom in a classroom). But your credits need to be on your transcript by the time registration appointments are assigned. In all likelihood they’re not going to be boosted by THAT much … but hey, if it saves you taking the actual class at UCSD, you’ve got another 4 units free to do something else with.

@LK - my brother’s in the UCI program. I’m not exactly sure how he has so much free time (and a relatively high GPA) there, considering all my CS friends at UCSD were always working their tails off in the basement labs. But seeing as a number of them are now at Apple, Google, etc, maybe UCSD is doing something right.

@astrina: Well, I’m in Warren, so they only GEs I could apply it to are the Math ones unless I choose my PofCs within the next month :stuck_out_tongue: So it would likely just be to boost my enrollment time and explore a subject.

Note: I’m undeclared

[Applied Mathematics Major](http://math.ucsd.edu/programs/undergraduate/ba_applied_mathematics.php)
At the bottom, it says “At least 13 four-unit, upper-division mathematics courses.”
Does that mean 13 in addition to the upper-division courses listed above, or just 13 total?

Does anyone know anything about the independent studies majors? How hard are they to complete/qualify for?

Also, is the sd’s rep for being socially dead deserved?

How good is the Computer Science major at UCSD, and how good is it compared to the Computer Engineering major (i know the difference between the two i just want a rough estimate of which one is the stronger one). Also how hard is it to sign up for classes (i know its really crazy for some of the UC’s) and are grades deflated alot, is it hard to maintain a4.0 GPA???

How easy is it to transfer majors? I got accepted in nanoengineering however, I am worried if it does not turn out to be my sort of career to pursue.

^It’s very easy if you want to switch into a non-impacted major.

Hey guys, I was trying to look through youtube to find a better glimpse of UCSD, (I’m super excited) and I came across this youtube channel. He documents his freshmen year at college, it’s actually pretty interesting!

[YouTube - KevinGoes2Kollege’s Channel](http://www.youtube.com/user/KevinGoes2Kollege#p/u/28/ftdTPedoGc4)

can you change colleges?
i got into sixth but heard it was the worst one

really? because last i heard, there is NO worst college. why not come with an open mind and who knows, you might end up like everyone else and actually like your school?

there’s hardly anything to distinguish between the colleges except a handful of writing classes. you take every other class with students from other colleges. even housing is expanding to other colleges.

(and to answer your question: yes, you can.)

I was admitted to muir college and on my application, I had declared a major and an alternate major.
However, when I was admitted, it simply said that I was admitted to Muir, and it failed to tell me what major I was admitted into. Is this bad? If I want to major in biology, does that mean that I won’t be able to and that I’ll graduate later because it’ll be hard for me to transfer into?
