How do you like your car? Has been reliable? Starting to think about a new car and looking at possibly the Range Rover Evoque. Have heard they can be unreliable so would love to hear from others about experience. I currently drive a Volvo XC90 and looking to go down to a 5 passenger and don’t want the XC60.
I don’t drive one but I’ll tell you, as someone who works for an OEM, Land Rover stores are extremely profitable due to service. One GM I call on - he is astounded that their Land Rover store doesn’t make money - because as he says, a beginner can.
It’s not model specific, but the brand has often been all flash, but not substance with not great reviews.
Just know with a brand like this you will have high service bills - even basic maintenance.
If you buy, make sure to get an extended warranty - and when they give you a ridiculous price, ask them what the MSRP is and pay that. Dealers will mark up the price 3 and 4 times - because that’s how finance managers make big $$. They won’t make big $$ at MSRP but still a reasonable living can be had.

We had an LR3 for 8 years. It was in the shop a lot more than our other vehicles and was expensive to keep on the road. We would not consider Land Rover again.
Be aware that they also had major production and financial problems within the last year and they’ve put off new model introduction.

Doesn’t Tata own Land Rover and jaguar now? I’d check their reliability but personally I would not own one. A friend did and was unhappy.

Yes, Jaguar Land Rover is currently owned by Tata, but Jaguar’s reputation for unreliability long predates it being owned by Tata (or Ford before Tata).
My DH’s relatives, decades ago, had 2 jags, because one was always in the shop. Worse than the “fix or repair daily” Fords.

I had one 5-6 years ago. Loved it, and I don’t recall it having chronic issues, but when it did, service was really pricey (as is the case with most luxury cars). We also did not care for our local LR dealer as they prioritized all of their uber wealthy customers (lots of NFL/NBA/Nascar people) when it came to scheduling service and reserving loaner vehicles (we got bumped a couple of times in favor of VIP customers - they didn’t even try to hide it). Anyway, I think I owned it 2-3 years before we traded it in on an Audi. I drive a Mercedes GLE now and it’s the happiest I’ve been with both the car and the service (disclaimer - my DH is a luxury car guy but most of what we buy is certified pre-owned). I also like the looks of the Volvo but have never owned one.

They are nice looking cars. I drive by the local dealer multiple times a day since it’s located at a corner I turn at almost any trip out or into my neighborhood. I love their paint colors. My mother in law had one that was a beauty. They switched to a Porsche which I don’t think is any less expensive to maintain.
My friend has driven a Range Rover for the 15 years I’ve known her. She absolutely loves her cars but she leases and I know her monthly payment is very high. Ironically her spouse is not a car person and drives an old American brand sedan.
Porsches are expensive to maintain, but quite reliable for a German car.
Land Rovers are so unreliable that a YouTuber called Doug DeMuro became famous after detailing how many times his Range Rover was in the shop, and how his CarMax bumper to bumper warranty paid out a huge multiple of what the warranty cost.

About 8 or 10 years ago, Range Rover/Land Rover vehicles were known for doors randomly opening while driving and for failed hood latches that caused the hoods to wobble & shake while driving. Also had a run of door panels falling off while driving.

So negative on Land Rover. I heard the same wherever I go. In spite of that, I am on my third LR Disco. I had a Volvo before that. Regular maintenance gets expensive but not much worse than the Volvo I had. Other than regular maintenance, I didn’t have to do much else. It got me through 9 miles of mud, real thick sleek mud, beautifully. I am a convert. Where I am, one can run into unimproved road unexpectedly. Knowing that it can handle just about anything gives me comfort.

You may chalk me up as a “no” vote.
I’ve known many LR owners and my thoughts are, if you have a lot of money to throw away and can also write off the entire purchase as a business expense in the 1st year (Section 179, IIRC), then they’re fantastic SUV’s.

That’s where I am right now which is how I started this in the first place. My lease on my XC90 is up next August so I want to take this next year to test drive cars. Not sure I really want luxury but that Evoque sure is cute.

Every car has winners and every one has lemons. You can find the most reliable car in the world - a Lexus or Toyota whatever, that Consumer Reports rates the best on the market, and they will have lemons. Some will just have more than others but they’ll also have winners.
So if you go in knowing the possibilities - and make sure your dealer does loaner vehicles when you’re down (at least for warranty) - if that’s what you really want - then go for it!!
I went from an underpowered XC90 to the XC60 T6 (more power) and I really like the XC60.
