Any rigorous Liberal Arts Colleges (LAC) accepting Second Bachelor's applicants?

In recent years I have become more and more aware of the distinction between vocational training and a real education.

I have also become aware that I pursued the former while completing my first Bachelors Degree, and that it was a major mistake that I need to rectify.

This is why I am pursuing my current goal of enrolling into a liberal arts college. I would like to complete, or perhaps to start, my real education.

I know that many US colleges do not accept second Bachelor’s Degree applicants, and that my options are limited. Is anyone aware of any Liberal Arts College (LAC) that would give me a chance? I have the additional stipulation that it be a rigorous school with top-notch academics. Right now, the only choice that comes to mind is Columbia University’s School of General Studies.

Does anyone know of additional potential destinations for someone in my situation?

Instead of wasting time on a second bachelors, why not get into a Master’s program in a new field? For some Master tracks, you can take some courses at a community college to bolster whatever you are missing in your new field and then apply to a Master’s program. This approach works better for Humanities than other fields, but perhaps that is the route you want to go.

Mount Holyoke, Smith, etc… most schools with non-trad programs offer 2nd bachelor’s…

Hi azcante,

I am also vigorously seeking a University or top notch college offering a liberal arts degree, but which allows someone to pursue a second undergraduate degree. I DO NOT think that it is a waste of time. Far from it. I am a law graduate, almost being admitted to the bar. My studies at undergrad have left me woefully deficient in having real knowledge which I am sure to receive from a liberal arts degree.

I came across Cornell College which offers a liberal arts degree. They also permit one to pursue a second undergrad degree. I received an email to that effect. So that’s one to add to your list. I have learnt of Colombia from you. Thanks a lot. If you find others, kindly inform. I intend to enroll early 2013, hence my frantic search now so I have adequate time to prepare.

Hey Azcante- don’t listen to a has-been golf pro. Classes at a community college? Is that a joke? Hmmmm…I have a BA and a grad degree and am looking at going to Columbia GS for a second BA (and may pursue a grad degree in that area). I am also looking at Oxford and Cambridge; Harvard may be an option for me (via a - loophole I have) Harvard Extension might be an option - you can take regular undergrad classes although I don’t know if they award degrees.

Hey LottieM – “Annika Sorenstam” is the golf pro. My last name is reasonably different for anyone able to read. The community college to Masters path I mentioned above works for many, depending on the field. Why waste time on a second bachelor degree if one can get a Masters in a field of choice?
